Urban Glasgow in the 70s

......Two bloody hours later I'm back on Autoshite

I found the tower block thread, and there's cracking pics of Dalmarnock, taken by a user called Syntexis. It's the VERY bloke I shared a 22nd floor flat with, and he's shown it demolished.... He always did have a good eye.

This is an excellent site you have posted up, many thanks Junkman.

I went to Uni at Park Campus of Caley and got the Underground to Kelvinbridge every day. I had no idea there was all the tunnel awesomeness nearby.

I shall be out of order for some time whilst looking at this.

Thanks for posting this too. My Mum lived in Maryhill in her youth but moved away when she married Dad, and missed out on the demolition of much of the centre of Glasgow and so was confused whenever she went back there. If you've ever joined/left the M8 at the Great Western Road junction, this is roughly where that is:

I've spent hours & hours on those two sites, there are some fantastic photos on them. Even if you're not a local there's a huge selection of old chod to be found. 8)

Glasgow has loads of abandoned tunnels http://urbanglasgow.co.uk/archive/glasg ... t_857.html though the only one you can walk into at the moment is Kelvindale. The others open up from time to time depending on ned activity. I spent a Sunday looking at some of them a few weeks ago but I only got into Botanics, Great Western Road and Kelvindale, Kelvingrove had been open a few days before but was well locked up when we got there.

This is my favourite, because of the yellow MKII Escort, its a GL but I can't work out the number plate it looks to be an R reg, can anyone else work it out so we can do the inevitable DVLA check to find out its termination?

What I find so fascinating is this:

Ca. mid to late Sixties:

RALHgl.jpg

Not a single import in sight.

Ca. one decade later:

1970s+Glebe+Drive.jpg

One forlorn Mini surrounded by foreigners (The Escort was built in Genk at that time).

The British car industry didn't die. It was killed.

Thanks for that I couldn't work it out, it didn't last very long, usually those MKII Escorts gave very long service lives for a 70's car, 14/15 years seems to be about the average with many going on well beyond that.

Just lot nearly a hour looking at the adventures of a milkmans thread, there's some excellent photos in that lot.

Yeah the milkmans set is great although it looks like he made the small boy do all the work while he just took photos of the surroundings.

Surely these three from his set are of Autoshite Head Office

I'm not convinced.

My Dads old MKII Escort (KKS429P) bought new in 1976 was hanging with rust after only 3 years of use.

Needed a complete bottom end respray when he traded it in for a Cortina in 1979...

Vehicle enquiry

The enquiry is complete. The vehicle details for KKS 429P are:

Date of Liability 01 08 1987

Date of First Registration 01 02 1976

Year of Manufacture 1976

Looks like it kept going for 11 year then...I'm surprised

I thought I knew my Vags (fnar). However, I don't have a Danny La Rue about what this little gem is at the bottom right.

Anyone?

It's a distorted Passat isn't it?[img][/img]

Well done, cheers for putting me out of my misery! I'd forgotten early Pissrats had round headlights. Really looks like a stretched mk1 Polo; what a pretty looking car.

Edit, that's why I don't remember - I can't see any photos of Passats with single round headlights!

Here's a UK 78:

Edit again, here's one!

volkswagen_passat_1974_wallpapers_1_b.jpg

I genuinely think this is the first time I've ever seen photos of a Passat with single round headlights - they all seemed to be twins or rectangular. Maybe it was just the base model with single round versions?
