Futureshite - The 2012 Nissan Maxima

I've actually changed cars since I took these photos but the site appeared to be down.

I really enjoyed this car - great power and handling for an Americanised Japanese car. Comes with a 290hp V6 engine which still returned just under 30MPG average with quite a bit of pressure on the GO pedal most of the time!

The true shite option would be to buy the one badged as a Samsung SM5.

I'd not heard of that one before - looks like it's based on the earlier Nissan Maxima:

Looks just like another generic large car. From the size or rear on the road I would have trouble telling this apart from an Insignia, Mazda 6 or XF.

That's very true - an awful lot of Japanese cars for the US market are totally devoid of style.

Perhaps it's the photo, but that MAXIMA badge looks on the piss. Are these cars made in the US?

I think they are made or assembled in Tennessee?

Maxima sales decreased sharply a few years ago when the Altima grew in size. Nissan's US range is utter rubbish. Plenty of them in my area, however, since I work a stone's throw from Nissan's US headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee.

I have to say though, that if I had to choose one of the following current vehicles; Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima, Hyundai Sonata & KIA Optima, I'd take the Altima as my personal vehicle.

It feels the best built, very comfortable and smooth to drive as well. Keyless starting is quite a nice feature too.

Right now, I'm back to a Toyota Avalon which I like because you can actually see out of the rear windows when driving ;)

Pahh.. can you still buy Lincoln Town Cars out of the box?

Now that's a proper Yank tank :D.

Recently read somewhere Ford recently had ceased production of the Crown Vic, many police customers who had being buying these for about 20 years not impressed with the suggestion of a V6 Taurus with beefed up transaxle and stronger front suspension as an alternative.....

Call me crazy, but I reckon it would do quite well here. Give it a diesel and plenty of toys and flog it at a sensible price and it could go head-to-head with the Skoda Superb. Make a good taxi fodder.

I know part of the 'Autoshite appeal' is the car's dull, unexciting exterior but jesus that Maxima's beyond dull - how I will ever buy one of those for 400 quid in 20 years?!
