Spam bumps. Help!

Sorry to sound thick, but WTF is a spam bump? Does it slow down or stop forum spam? Am confused. If a spam bump does indeed have some effect stopping the unwanted posts on here then could someone please post a rust bump? My car has unwanted rust. Have tried hammering smaller bits of spam tins over the larger rust holes but to no lasting effect.. Spam pushed into the rust holes has no effect either other than attracting the neighbours dog which keeps licking my car and, TBH, also seems to encourage mice.

A rust bump would really be appreciated! Thankyou.

All it does is a rather pointless 'bumping' of threads on the forum to the top of the page, thus moving the spam threads downwards.

Moot point whether or not it's a good thing. You look at the 'bumped' topic thinking there's some interesting new comment been made only to see the words 'spam bump'...

At least with the spammers you could tell which topics were shit before you clicked on them. (usually)

Just my opinion, others may tell you spam bumpage kept the forum alive during the recent infestation. :?

Bob...stick theBeard in! No one around hair will come and lick your hole!

Jap Spam tins are thinnest and most likely to peel off... stick on with Lidl remaindered 'Kontinentall Chutneez', don't dwell with the butter knife or it'll be on the sill too

Around here we have many 'Rust Bumps' [loosley scattered chunks of FleeBay purchased chod to be seen any day!].... strewn amongst the pieces of front coil spring.

SPAM..... Wonderful SPaaaaaaaaaaaaaM!

I have made this pie chart in Excel to illustrate the problem with bumping spam threads, creating new threads about spam, and also discussing spam in existing threads:

Nothing personal at you Bob and no need to say sorry, it's just that there's been more posts ABOUT spam on here recently then there's been spam posts or even threads with actual shite car content.

Understand. And yes, you are right. Guess its just a result of the site going down recently, so just a topic of conversation. Am pretty new to Autoshite so often get it wrong!

Am maybe trying too hard! :D

Friends?

As the OP, thanks!

Guess it didnt turn out too badly. Am just unsure about posting here as sometimes folks seem to react badly!

Correction - MY post has 'shite car content.' err, components of, sprinkled liberally around local speed humps [Rust bumps].

Don't worry Bob, there aren't many of us who can follow what Savvy is going on about.

I'm both humbled & embarrassed by such fetishism

Spam bumps are when you get a massive bell end creating worthless posts (i.e. spam) in ‘proper’ threads in order to displace other spam threads, in the misguided belief that they are doing someone a favour.

Its a bit like if a neighbours cat keeps coming in your house and pissing on the curtains, and you decide to ‘get your own back’ by pissing on the curtains yourself, basically all that happens is there’s twice as much piss on your curtains.

Equivalent to the old chestnut - 'bearing a grudge is like taking poison, hoping the other guy dies'?

Hmm

Absolutely and utterly brilliant. And concise as ever! Mr B is a genius. Explained spam bumps and I now get it! Not totally sure if this makes me a ' massive bell end' but the explanation is first class!
