The Oldest Shite Still in Production? (Uninterruptedly)

^I don't understand why we're leaving that one out either actually. Apart from different engines, has it really changed much in the last 60+ years?

Exactly. Different engines aren't necessarily a sign of a different vehicle. The layout of the Land Rover is still the same, the construction is the same, the hubs, axles and gearbox are basically the same. It's still made by people from that same small corner of England. It looks basically the same not because the current models are totally different but designed to look similar but because they are simply updated versions of the same vehicle.

Wheelbase is different, dashboards have changed (for the worse) down the years, coil springs and discs instead of leafs and drums, door handles are different and a load more bits and pieces are different too, no doubt. Where does one draw the line? Is a 1965 2cv not the same car as a 1973 one because of a myriad of upgrades? Some models in between are a mix of old and new. What does that make them? Same for the Land-Rover.

I'd say the factory in which a car is made can have as large an effect on how it feels and goes just as much as a host of modifications.

I'd actually meant the Morgan but I suppose you could say the same for the Land Rover.

When does a vehicle in continuous production become a new model? Compare a 1970 Range Rover with a 1994 and they look very different but one is essentially a refinement of the other.

This may be wrong, but how about the motorcycle world?

The Royal Enfield bullet was introduced in 1955:

You can still buy one today: http://royalenfield.com/motorcycles/bullet-500

It's India again!

Don't know ow it's name but I seem to remember that I've seen that the BMW bike the Germans had in ww2 is still being made in China

I've just bought one of the last "classic" 500 bullets,is drums, right hand change 4 speed, pre unit engine etc, technically the bullet proper ended in 2009 when they finally succomed to EU regs, now they have an all in one new engine and some nasty styling cues.

F2 motorcycles were selling them over here for a bit,  I think it was the earlier version of the Ural complete with sidevalve engine.

The Russian IMZ-Ural, as well as the similar Ukrainian Dnepr, are based on the pre-war BMW R71, built under license in the Soviet Union since 1941, as the M72. At the same time, BMW ended the R71 production and started to build the R75, which is the quintessential German WWII motorcycle most remember, despite they were only produced in very limited numbers.

Both, Ural and Dnepr motorcycles, are known in the United Kingdom by the generic name "Cossack", which was used between 1973 and 1979 by SATRA. Plans for the M72 were later sold to the Nanchang Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation in China, to build the Chang Jiang.

When did they start making the Paykan pick-up anyway? They were never made in the UK.

Well I believe it was 1969 or 1970, and yes the pick was only available in Iran. Also South Africa had it too, it was a slightly different from the Iranian version, and I tend to believe that the engineering was done back in Rootes.

For some unknown reason I'm reading that Afrikaans advert heading in a thick Yorkshire accent.
