Want some Renault 5 shite?

Not quite as highly specced as the Ballade, but equally as ex-OAP owned, I have this, a 46,000 mile 1994 Renault 5 Campus Prima 1.4 manual.

It runs & drives very nicely & is in very good condition inside & out as you can see in the pictures, there aren't any issues with the mechanical side, no squeaks, rattles or clonks.

Its sat unused since August, but started last week like it had been used the day before.

Its never been welded & theres no trace of rust in the usual R5 places (sills, screen surround etc). I can't find any evidence of any accident damage either. It could pass as 1-2 years old condition-wise.

Its luxuries include a sunroof, a Pirana alarm & a radio cassette (which turns on, but I can't get it to make any noise).

Negatives: A couple of tyres are starting to crack (cheap 145x13), the heater controls don't work (the cables have fallen off & are hanging down from under the dash, I'd imagine they just need clipping back in, unfortunately its currently set on cold), the NS speaker grilles fallen off (still with it though) & theres a touched in L shaped scratch on the drivers door.

There are all its MOT`s back to its first in 1997 to back up the mileage & both the MOT & tax is till Feb 2013 (hasnt even done 500 miles since last Feb).

MOT`s & mileage:

Feb 5th 1997 - 06,178

Jan 28th 1998 - 10,292

Feb 1st 1999 - 14,545

Feb 1st 2000 - 18,314

Jan 23rd 2001 - 21,448

Jan 28th 2002 - 24,766

Jan 27th 2003 - 27,991

Jan 22nd 2004 - 30,902

Feb 2nd 2005 - 33,579

Feb 4th 2006 - 35,670

Jan 30th 2007 - 37,750

Jan 28th 2008 - 39,452

Feb 4th 2009 - 40,952

Jan 27th 2010 - 42,349

Feb 1st 2012 - 45,517

The lady who owned this was married to a cabby who used to service it himself, the history, uniquely, is written on the lids of oil filter boxes in pencil & covers most years since 1997.

Again, located in outer north London, £495 please...

Pictures (note, it wasn't cleaned up for the pictures, its always been kept this clean):

I SEE YOUR CAR DAILY!!! It's usually parked just off Darkes Lane, Potters Bar! I live in Barnet and WILL PM you!!! I always laugh at the number plate; "PMT" is an excellent number and the Ford Garage next to where the car is parked were Renault dealers many years ago & sold a Clio to my neighbour, which also had a "PMT" number.

It's a small world!!!

I`m afraid, unbelievably, its not this one! This has been sitting just off the North Circular for the last few months!

It has lived its life in Barnet though, I suspect it came from that dealer if its also "on" a PMT...

Just look at that... no unnecessary bumps or bulges; lovely.

And so straight and honest, this one. GLWS etc. Have a bump!

Cheers!

It is pleasingly simple, but when it comes to small cars, I prefer them Italian flavoured! If it was an Uno or Panda, a Y10, or even a Mk1 Punto in this condition, I`d definitely be keeping it, but it isnt, & I don't have much room, so it`ll have to go..

Yep, they're all hotties!

I've had an Uno, a Panda and a Y10, and I have been quietly getting steamed up over the prospect of owning a Mk1 Punto! I love the gently tapering slab-sidedness.

As per my sig, I still have 2 Mk2 Uno`s, a Panda & a Punto and have owned 20+ more, but even my best Uno, which is very very good, is slightly eclipsed by the condition of this R5..

I know someone with an R5 Turbo he`s had for about 5 years, he`s spent about a grand doing bodywork repairs, if he'd just had the option of this one when he started & used it for a reshell he'd have saved loads and had a stronger, longer lasting shell...

Wouldn't that be a 'MK1'?

Or am I just being dumb?

Nope. The ones I remember were all this shape.

There may have been a Mk1 turdo, but I don't recall it.

Mk 1 Gordini turbo from the late seventies is what mattblack is thinking of

There was deffo a MK1 turbo...

But I was just getting Gordinis mixed up with Turbos...

If anyone on here gets this I've a couple of odds and ends in the shed you can have for NOWT.

Brake pads and spare wing mirrors that I know of, possibly a couple of other bits.

Pretty good these; will cruise at 80mph all day thanks to the five speed box and not take too long to get there either. Mine had about 165,000 miles on the clock when it finally expired. (And only had the head skimmed once!)

This thread is weirdly messing with my mind... Convinced that this Renault had originally lived in Potters Bar I drove up to where I thought it lived... only to find ANOTHER Renault 5 parked at EXACTLY the same place....

I was beginning to wonder if there's a secret supply of beautifully preserved red Renault 5 cars somewhere in north London.....

Well, thats a bit weird...

I`ve also just worked out who you are via flickr!

Right, I`ve just brought it home (had the kids last week), & after being sat since August it started & drove back fine.

Started to look into the heater control issue, quickly realised its a right fiddly arse of area to work in.. Not helped by the fact the heater controls don't pull forward out of the dash (why would it, its French..), they actually go backwards through the dash, & you've then got to thread the thing past all the wires etc..

Anyway, stripped it out to find the plastic where the clips hold the cables in place have snapped & caused the clips to come off...

Hopefully I've found another one... I'm dreading putting it back with the control cables fitted making things 3 times harder..

I'd just like to add that I've seen this little car in the flesh this afternoon & it really is as good as it looks! Anyone looking for a runabout could do a lot worse than this Renault 5. The sills are solid, the struts are all in good order, the interior's not worn and the boot doesn't have a spot of rust in it. It could benefit from a couple of tyres but that's fair wear & tear. All the electrics are working the engine bay's clean.

Thanks Andrew! Hasnt even been washed since about July! Was nice to meet you too 8)

I`ve ordered the heater control panel this afternoon (spent 30 minutes on the phone to the local Renault dealer finding the right thing!). I'll be sorting the stereo out while the consoles out too.
