Off Roading in LADA Niva Olga

As yesterday was my 22nd birthday I thought I would take the Lada out for a spin on the local green lanes.

This post may be better suited to the Difflock forum but seen as you all have all put up with my restoration ramblings I thought I would treat you with some proof pudding and some great PR shots.

Mastiles Lane between Street Gate and Kilnsey. Please don't check the legality of this.

I came to a ford followed by a gate mounted in a wall on a concrete plinth. The climb is about a foot high, onto slippery concrete

5 minutes later and problem solved

Low range, 1st gear and diffock and Olga didn't even know it as there!

Instead of climbing out and moving the red bucket I took a detour. Notice how little damage is caused whilst in low range and gentle on the throttle, even though it was a sharp uphill on wet grass. Take note conservationists, 4x4s needn't wreck the lanes if used properly!

I was aware of a Roman marching camp in this area, so stuck to the track as much as possible when up and away from the beck.

The lane then turns into a drovers road from here on. Solid underfoot but still rutted and wet in places.

Perfect magazine photo!

Note to self - don't try to cross here if water is as deep as the footbridge!

A good fast 2 mile run down into Kilnsey on this hard packed stone.

The abandoned Kinsey Quarry would make an awesome camping party spot!

After I got home Joe told me he had done it the opposite way in his Maestro!

And he pointed out some potentially more difficult lanes in the area.

I'm looking forward to winter so I can do the same route in a foot of snow!

Its only 5 miles from home as the crow flies so if I do get into difficulty (which isn't likely) I'm not too far from a hot chocolate.

Till next time!

Unless Andy's having us back, this...

... should be the venue for Shitefest '13.

Top work with the Lada big chap :)

And Happy Birthday! :D

Thanks for the photos of a wonderful place.

BUT

I had seen this earlier today and thought it might make your river crossing look a bit tame :)

That's awesomely cool, the views of Olga around Malham are fantastic

I agree - although it could be organised for an autoshite camping trip.

In fairness there there was a sign saying 'unauthorized persons will be prosecuted'

May I quote the Autoshite Guide to Living One Life, which states quite clearly: "no.214K - What could possibly go wrong?"

I wish we had stuff like that around here. The ridgway used to be do-able for a few miles (90+ through woods anyone?) but then they blocked it off. If I had access to shit like that I'd get myself an old SJ or Niva.

Top work, looks like fun!
