kinkersaab Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 I saw this car trundling around Aberdeen a few months ago and waved down the owner. It was his company car "scottish and Newcasle breweries" and he bought it on retirement in 1985. It has covered 46000miles and is motd until 13 th jan, the tax is until end of year too. 5 speed 2068cc of RAW POWA. finnished in maroon non metalic, with a goldish beige velour interior.electric windows and original stereo amonst other luxury features. I will use it as my daily unti mot runs out or someone else wants it long term. I relaise im in the wrong end of uk to of interest to most, but thought it worth a try. Sorry for no pics, my laptop is knackered and i have no idea how to get them from my phone to here. MY moblie is 0seven 803 o19376, feel free to discuss and i coupld text a picture to interested parties, the mot has no advisories and the doc ref no is 21923601769 validation character Q if anyone wants to check history. thanks, Lee.
cms206 Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 I have family in Peterhead... I don't have £250. Fucksocks. Swap for a slightly crunchy Senator?
JohnDeere Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 Bit of a polish and a hoover, a few nice photos, and a story abut how Albert McHiggins cherished this car and only took it out on dry Sundays and you can put it on eBay for £3995. So long as it still has the majority of its factory-applied paint finish that is.
kinkersaab Posted October 20, 2012 Author Posted October 20, 2012 it does...under aerosol. so its £250.
CortinaDave Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 Nice work! I might swing past your garage if im passing on the off chance its sitting....
trigger Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 If you want to text/Whatsapp me the photos then I don't mind uploading them for you, just send me a PM and I'll text you my number.
Largactil Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 I flit between Aberdeen & London on a regular basis, so could maybe help if anyone really wanted this...
CortinaDave Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 I'm also in Aberdeen most weekends, and could drive it down to Edinburgh if anyone wanted it since ill be making the trip anyway.
kinkersaab Posted October 20, 2012 Author Posted October 20, 2012 Well, firstly, thanks for all offers of help getting it down south, also thanks trigger, i will attempt some pics in daylight. so, after having her delivered to my work, and me spending most of the afternoon admiring it, i decided i should give her a spin. first impressions were HEAVY, after getting aquainted with that, she trundles along quite the thing cruised ok at 80 ish and felt quite solid. super soft seats and suspension and a rather nice tight box. a wee bit too easy to crunch into second if too hasty and the cluch bite is quite high and slippage can be provoked, but also avoided, so no worries there. both elec windows work as does the central locking. brakes and sup joints all nice and noise free. The body loooked great when i first saw it drive past through misted up windows in the pissing rain. It isn't. The flats and top half are good and original enough, lower half and arches are an aerosol covered mess. bumpers are good, as are lights and rear spoiler. from 10yds in rain it looks lovely, what it will need for mot in jan i have no idea, its one to run until then, and re evaluate, i sadly will then park it up and eventually reluctantly weigh it in if no one wants to save it. welding and bodywork aint my thing. tonight is my recent partners mothers 73 rd birtday. We are taking her mum and dad out for some posh nosh. I am driving so they can have a wee tipple. The old renault is doing the job of limmo.
willswitchengage Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 Serious interest registered, although I do live in the Thames Valley (exclusively for job reasons, YORKSHIRE@HEART), but that's why God gave us the Megabus. I assume it's a saloon? Pictures would be delightful but otherwise, yes. Exciting times since I phailed at winning the R18 diz estate on ebay a couple of months ago
trigger Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Photos!, It's looks a bloody hunny by the way!. 1984 Renault 18 GTD Diesel by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1984 Renault 18 GTD Diesel by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1984 Renault 18 GTD Diesel by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1984 Renault 18 GTD Diesel by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1984 Renault 18 GTD Diesel by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1984 Renault 18 GTD Diesel by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr 1984 Renault 18 GTD Diesel by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr
Guest Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 I hear the banger racing at Wisbech is good.... SRS like, that's lovely for the money. I rather like it. RESIST.
Guest Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 If I didn't share a unit with stupid, selfish clarts..........This would be parked outside pissing them off. But there truly is no more room at the inn, not for baby Jesus, nor for any more diesel powered French shit. Although the temptation to buy some OMG CROW BLING BBS copies off a dub mong and throw them on it (complete with derv sizzle) is rather strong.
DodgyBastard Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 I want this so much.. starting to think of what I can sell to raise some funds, Panda, E30 touring.. Out of interest what's the fuel consumption like?
kinkersaab Posted October 26, 2012 Author Posted October 26, 2012 I havent measured it, but i havent put any in, and haver done a fair bit on what was in it. That is helpfull eh? I don't want pottential buyers to um and aaar over how this will be long term racking up lots of miles, it might well run forever, but it is a 29 yr old renault that has over the last few years done about 150 miles per year, i did in one day more than it had done all year. it is still available to the first person that comes for it, lots of interest, but usual stumbling blocks are stoping anyone actually taking it.
HillmanImp Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 That looks sweeeeeeeet. Sadly I too have no more room but this should shirley fly out of the door at that price. It looks fuggin well cool. GLWTS ETC Does anyone remember the billboard adverts for these in the 80's? They were along the line of 'Is it a bird, is it a plane, no its a Renault 18'? Or did I just imagine them?
DodgyBastard Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Where are you located exactly ? My pal is really wanting this and has the money to buy it. I sense an autoshite road trip....
kinkersaab Posted October 26, 2012 Author Posted October 26, 2012 hi, i am near banchory or in banchory depending weather work or home.
DodgyBastard Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Just figured that out, after searching kinker, aberdeenshire. Had a look round the TB hospital last time I was up that way. My Pal is on 12 hour night shifts for the next few days so it'll be next week until any decisions will be made about coming up.Is there anything about the car we need to know before we make the trip.
kinkersaab Posted October 26, 2012 Author Posted October 26, 2012 other than it being a 29yr old renault 18 with short mot and tax and flattering photos and a potential to suffer from clutch slip if you let a woman or a moron drive it? No. and its obv only £250 for all of those reasons. It does look to have a recent battery in it too,
nisfan Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 im the guy that suhinaffy says is interested in this. After seeing this in a scrapyard i wanted it so much. The renault isnt too dissimilar and should fill my need for shite. But do i need another car, last count was 5.....Also how many left says there is only 1 18gtd on the roads, i know it cant be trusted but still.
kinkersaab Posted October 26, 2012 Author Posted October 26, 2012 also worthy of note is. The handbrake works the front wheels. just taken it back to work for a viewing tomorrow, and the white covered carpark was too tempting = FAIL. no harm done.
willswitchengage Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 1 18gtd on the roads, i know it cant be trusted but still. There was an 18 GTD estate with long tax and MOT that went on ebay a month or so ago for about £600, so there's definitely more than one.
CortinaDave Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Wow a Stanza! Not seen one of those for years. Was that in UPullIt? They will sometimes sell cars out of the yard depending on if they've come in under one of the death warrant eco schemes or not
nisfan Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 also worthy of note is. The handbrake works the front wheels. just taken it back to work for a viewing tomorrow, and the white covered carpark was too tempting = FAIL. no harm done. Yeah Stanza was at u-pull-it gone now though.
garbaldy Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 also worthy of note is. The handbrake works the front wheels. just taken it back to work for a viewing tomorrow, and the white covered carpark was too tempting = FAIL. no harm done. Thats a new one on me as the 79 renno 18 i had did very good handbrake turns
CortinaDave Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 And we're out posing around Aberdeen now. Class!
