175 65 14t tyres I have searched the interweb for tyres all week I only needed 2 cos I picked up a bolt in my new one, most places did repairs for around the £20 mark but as the bolt was over 6mm thick it could not be repaired, my other tyre a newish Mitchelin the bands had gone, must have been a bad batch cos out of the four three went the same way one after the other and it was like driving a pogo stick, anyway all quotes were around the £49 to £55 area for el cheapo budget tyres.

I had replaced 2 mitchelin tyres about 18 months ago with National tyres own brand Tigar Sigura 82T tyres which I was assured were made by a top brand maker at £40 each and over 13,000 miles found them to be the slippryest tyres I have ever had and have had a few scares can tell you, but thats about as long as they have lasted, so now I have got 3 Rockstone radials from a tyre place in Longsight bargain price of £30 each inc valve & balancing & getting rid of old tyre.

According to the inter web these are made in China,I wonder if these are on the new MG. they don't seem to be any noisier than the ones they have replaced and they don't squeal in the local car park like the others did, I miss that as the Evil one used to think I was going too fast and start nagging. Its too soon to see if they are like slicks, does anyone know better?

I bought 3 as my Tigars only lasted the 13000 miles and have piece of mind for when the snows arrive and have a bit of tread I also have a useable spare now. Or could I be proved wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rockstone (not to be confused with Roadstone) tyres are decent enough for the money as far as I recall. McWilliams Tyres (near me) sell a good number to taxi drivers.

Yeah but for £30 each fully fitted, well I was impressed, if they can sell them for that price and still be making a profit how much are brand tyres wholesale and the profit margin?

I don't know, I found your post almost unreadable.

Tyres aren't worth scrimping on. My Xantia had Chinese Westlake tyres on the back which made for interesting snap oversteer.

If you look on a site like mytyres you can usually buy European-made tyres, often by companies owned by premium brands, for £3-4 more per tyre than the cheapest no grip Chinese tyres.

These are only £35 each. http://www.mytyres.co.uk/cgi-bin/rshop. ... sowigan=So
