MKIV Ford Zodiac/Zephyr - WANT

Back in the dim and distant mists of time, I owned a pair of these barges. I even got married in a pair of MKIV Limos.

Rather foolishly, I didn't learn my lesson (weighs approx 2 tons, almost entirely water-soluble, unreliable V6, poor panel availability, tricky rear brakes, raging thirst (20mpg on a good day?) and a ride like a cross-channel ferry) and now find myself full of want for another...

Thats a very acurate description

I know exactly how you feel

Ive had 5 of them , all thirsty , rusty , tempramental rear brakes , everything hot except the heater , and drive horrible

But i would get another one tommorow :D

Well...I'm keeping my eyes peeled...hopefully, I'll pick something up soon.

My mate had one about 20 years ago, he called it "The Aircraft Carrier". As you say, very thirsty but a nice motor. Is that a Montego just in shot as well?

GR8 4 SHITE ZCARS! Easily the worst big Ford, so therefore rightly desirable. I'd quite like an estate...

Indeed it is - my now long-gone 2 lItre Estate - but that's another story!

I almost bought a Zodiac estate about nine years ago - it was out of T&T but pretty tidy, the chap wanted £600 for it - seemed a bit much at the time, so I didn't buy it - obviously kicking myself now.

A few years later I did buy a metallic bronze Executive saloon - trailered it back from Kent, realised how heavy it was when my 740 estate went into a mad tankslapper at 65mph on a downhill stretch of the M11 - was swerving from hard shoulder to central armco, scattering artics left and right. Somehow managed to get it back under control, more by luck than by judgement as the steering wheel didn't seem to have any effect at all. Much like that of the Exec when I got it unloaded and took it for a whizz round the block. It went OK though, and the Essex seemed in good health and didn't get hot. Comfy too, and had the advantage of being a floor shift (estate was column shift, and not a nice column shift either). I didn't keep it long. Wouldn't mind another, but not sure I could afford to run an Essex these days.

I know where there's one (Executive), but the owner won't part with it.

I've missed a few (tidy, but in need of a bit of attention) recently at very reasonable money...however, it's always the same...the minute you want one...nowt (decent) to be found! :(

Nah, bit of T-Cut and it'll soon be sorted!

The picture shows one thing at least- they don't do chrome plating like they used to. That's been lying in a wood for thirty years or more and the bumper is like new.

I bought this around 20 years ago at an 'autojumble' that used to take place before a classic car auction.

Taken from an issue of Motor magazine dated march 1966. 8) It has been in a picture frame ever since. :D

These big mark 4s used to fascinate me back then. Possibly down to the American styling and long bonnets. I have a vague recollection these from my childhood. My dad once said that apparently the metallic ones were not well painted, as the 'bits' used to come off on a sponge or cloth if you washed it. :o

They're dreadful things. I'd like one too.

Another superb U Tube clippage - Heffers and Codiacs being built at D'Agenham with Anglias and Coarsehairs making an appearance.............

I still want a MK4. My father had 3 Mk2's 56, 58 and 61 then got a 63 Mk3. 1965,time for a new car and he got a Super Minx. I have never forgiven him.

My cousin had a mk3 back in the day.

Coming home from a party a little the worse for wear (completely wankered I suspect),

he nudged a bit of armco on a Birmingham flyover.

Took him hours to get home as the car would subsequently only turn to the left.
