Hi I'm new

After living my formative motoring years in the land of autoshite, I finally splashed out on a mk5 golf Gti... Low mileage 1 previous owner etc. etc.

Trouble free motoring I thought with its full main dealer service history.., well after 9 months of ownership it went pop! Warranty void etc.. Luckily I learnt a bit about mechanics with all my old cars and slowly but surely have been repairing it! But there are fair few specialist tools I have had to purchase a long th way

I did buy an mgf as a run about... Awesome car but needs about 300 spent on it for mot (DIY) so had a look on the bay and became smitten

2 previous owners

87k

Full service history

Mot till July

And In the colour of the moment - white!!!

I had to snap it up.. I went into the Main dealers, debit card In hand, he had recently taken it in as px. With a bit of choke the beast fired its 1.7 engine into life!

My decision was then cemented!!!

It has rusty door bottoms and the sills are a bit questionable but not rotten, it's 21 years old

It was up for £500 so i gave him £250 of my hard earnt and drove it home

To be honest it drove like a bag of crap and I flooded the engine with the choke.. My driving licence is dated 2005 that's well into the age of fuel injection!

It kangerooed constantly and tried to die when I pulled away at any junction at sensible revs

Anyway I knew it was just poorly so when I got home I popped the bonnet, I don't need an obd port, my dad didn't rebuild a Morris traveller in his late teens just to see his son plug a laptop into his car, oh no!!!!

I saw it straight away, the cold start tube had been replaced with a bit of induction kit piping!! And it had frayed away.. No problem I said as I went to my shed and got another bit of induction kit cold air feed tube.. Perfect diameter, popped it on and went for a drive!!!

YES I said.. I had fixed it the car ran smooth as possible! It was treated to full service in July

The moral of this tale is, I love my H reg volvo 440 with manual steering, sunroof, heated seats and no central locking

Naturally pictures are demanded but well done for diving into the world of Autoshite. A proper Volvo should actually have large chucks of Frenchness in it for extra shite points. And be built by reefer-smoking, crazy Dutchmen.

What's a Volvo if it hasn't got a Renault engine!!?

Pictures will have to come when I'm not on an iPhone

That 440 really does look tragic, most excellent!

On a more serious note, it's already lasted twice as long as anything it'll have been traded in for at that Puggy dealership ever will....

Welcome aboard. Nice buy - if I saw that in a car park, it would make me smile, and demand I took pictures of it!

I actually learnt a lot of mechanics on a 440turbo as a kid, me neighbour gave me one when I was 16 much to my dads disapproval... I never fixed it but had good fun trying and learning, I had 2 st one point... Probably rare cars now oops

Anyway turns out this car was free as I just changed insurance over (had it on day insure to pick it up) and they have me £270 rebate so that's enough to buy some jungle

There's a white 440 out the back of my parent's house which belongs to someone who lives a few doors down. Unfortunately it's been there for over 5 years and is being enveloped by the local flora. It is a real eyesore and does need to be fragged, but since it's on private land there's nothing that can be done. He does also have a Carlton estate that never moves, but is taxed. I did offer to buy it, but he wasn't interested.
