More up to date journalism from the Sun of a car that's been on CaC for at least two months

There's some right bellends commenting on it too, unsurprisingly, although this comment is quite depressing.

This is a rather spooky story. I used to work for Sims Metal in Avonmouth at Bath Reclamation, and a guy used to bring in all of the cars that were not sold at the insurance Salvage yard down the road (Dave Hales ltd), and he'd come in in his 10 tonne Ford Cargo, with a load of cars all stacked up.

On top of this stack was an old Rover, the same style as the one in this article. As I reached up to it with the forklift, I thought "crikey that car is in mint condition underneath", unfortunately as it was so high up, I had to stick the forks through the windows.

We brought it down to the deck, and this old Rover was utterly mint condition, i'm talking utterly clean with no rust or anything, car had barely done 800 miles, and unfortunately it had to be scrapped.

This Rover too was one that was left after the owner died, the salvage company didn't even bother trying to sell it on, they just immediately scrapped it! :(

dont care how many miles on the clock....its a rover , thats the only reason its here because the owner died...otherwise it would have been scrapped years ago along with many many others

See what you mean by the bellends, the world's top expert on Rovers, so by his assumption, Lord Stirling and other Rover owners are technically dead?

I hope the new owner fully exercises their rights under the sale of goods act if/when a rear wheel cylinder starts leaking

It is currently in the hands of one of the chaps on my 800 forum who has bought it on behalf of someone in the USA, to where it is heading soon.

Thats part of the problem why Rover went belly up,it wasn't just BMW who shafted Rover, but the British motoring public who did nothing but moan and complain at the products being dated, and then when it was all over, were 'outraged' that people weren't buying British. Yes,the K series was a bit of a lemon with its headgasket issue, but if a Rover was 'properly' maintained, they would give good service. Vauxhall and Volkswagen have had issues with timing chains and electric power steering systems - do people always whinge about them in the press, and call them crap from all angles ? Well, just as bad having a bad timing chain as a headgasket really.Peugeot have problems with DPF's,Ford had problems with Mondeo TDCi fuel pumps - are they crap as well, and shouldn't be bought ? Find one car which is not blighted with one problem;will be ages looking !

Good point. Rover never really recovered from the dark days of the seventies. The great unwashed British public's perception that "All Italian cars rust", "All Japanese cars never break down", kind of thing.

+10000000000000+++

Funny how the British public react when you mention 'Rover' or in fact, most British products (that aren't popular or heavily hyped up). They dont learn about these products, nor do they expect to maintain them, they take pub talk crap as gospel and believe in the stereotype as colc mentioned. When you try and mention that other marques such as Mercedes, BMW, Ford et al have thier own problems, they usually stand thier blank like they didnt hear you or dismiss it as a one-off.

Personally I dont give a toss. My car is a Rover and it works, I bought it because I like it and knowing its old, I know there will be more problems with it than a newer car, so I'm prepared to put effort into maintaining it, something your average unwashed doesnt quite comprehend. Maintanance costs nothing but a bit of time and money (thats if it hasnt rusted away or is at the point of blowing up, then it costs alot of time and money)

As Richard said, this car has been bought by a collector who has bought a fair few other British marques and low mileage 1-owner 'Doctor' like cars, they will shipped to the USA for his own personal collection.

Problem is that cars like the 45 were dated by the end, and the final facelifts looked incredibly cheap. The Cityrover really was a desperate attempt that fooled absolutely no one, and the Streetwise was just tragic (although they were hardly the only marque that had tried it). It is a strange part of the British psyche where we expect so much but love to see failure (sport being the prime example). When you consider our motoring heritage, the fact we do not have a mainstream volume car maker is really sad.

On that note, I really fancy a Montego

He even wrote it twice! Some amusing comments on there including the 'would of paid a fiver for it'.

Like every car Rover have made, I think it's herd mentality with all the brand bashing that has gone on in the past 20 years. My work mate commented on terrible build quality in the newer Rovers, I asked if he'd ever owned, driven or even sat in one, he said 'No'. Bellend!

This is exactly what I'm talking about. People ask me what I drive, I tell them, the first thing to fall out of thier mouths are; but Rovahs r shit. I ask them the same question; have they ever driven/been in one, and almost predicably I get the answer 'no'. I then show them my car and all the technology/comfort it offers and they get confused/delerious.

Sod 'em I say.

I might be seeing this 14 miles Rover soon anyway, it'll be interesting to see it.

I've noticed this as well, there seems to be a lot of anti-Rover bias at the moment, mainly from people who've never even owned one. I remember when I had the Maestro, just about everyone I knew said "OMG Rovers r shit, why don't you get a proper car". A proper car being a Mondeo, Focus or Fiesta as Fords are treated like royalty here in Essex.

'Have you ever owned a Maestro?' "Nah, but Top Gear say they're shit so they must be lol".

My dad has a W reg 75 2.0 Connoisseur SE Auto which he bought for £500 on Ebay, from a trader, with 12 months MOT. It's really tidy, goes well, is reliable, comfortable, has all the toys and is generally a lovely car. Probably a lot cheaper than the equivalent Ford as well. Joe Public? "It's shit cos it's a Rover innit".

I've really got the hots for an early Montego estate at the moment. Everyone thinks I'm mad. I'm glad I'm in the company of like-minded people here, and that it is perfectly sane to lust after elderly BL/AR/Rover cars. :)
