How not to export your new car

One of my writer friends here in Paphos has finally got her book out.

In 1970, newlyweds Ross and Sara needed to get to Zambia for Ross to start his new job. They'd bought a lovely new Hillman Hunter (in Golden Sand), and after hitting travel difficulties, decided to drive. From Edinburgh. This is their story.

While Sara was preparing the book, we had talked about Hunters a bit, because I've had a couple too, and I said I knew of a couple sitting about here. That suited Sara very well, she and Ross met me at Andreas's yard and we showed them two different cars, which they sat in, generally reliving their memories. I also lent (in fact gave) Sara a Hillman Hunter manual I happened to have.

Today she held a book-signing slightly ahead of the official launch. She invited her friends from the Writers' Group; four of us showed up, plus many of her other friends. So now I have my copy, and in the back, among the acknowledgements, is something I never expected to see: my name! That's definitely a first. If you'd asked me when I was a teenager if I ever thought I was going to be listed in the thanks in someone's book, I would have laughed until you fell over.

It's a totally Autoshite story really: one beige Hunter, a young couple with no bloody clue what they were doing, taking on a project far too ambitious for them; and yet somehow surviving to tell the tale. And it's true! Sara has a Facebook group for her book: http://www.facebook.com/groups/507059139309213/ and it's listed on Amazon so you should have no trouble finding it. If the worst comes to the worst, order through me, but postage costs will be extra, and probably horrifying so you need to be at last-resort stage.

Nice one Eddy! I'm going to write a car book one day. Though nobody will probably want to publish it
