Me too. Although, sadly, it's not as if we have our own motor industry to boast about any more, unless you're going to start citing Morgan, Bristol and the like.

Completely unrelated* fact: BMW are Olympics games sponsors.

I understand that they are sponsoring the games, but when they have the statdium full of British Classic Cars at one point, there is no place for a bloody 1-series! bring them on later!...

Also! I wanted to see a blue Hillman Hunter GLS been driven on the stage by no other than David Gilmour to play the entire Shine On You Crazy Diamond from bigning to the end! Now that is what I call a proper British Olympic Closing ceremony!....

I wanted to see Gary Gilmour riding a Royal Enfield Bullet whilst he sang 'I've Got a Brand New Combine Harvester' in B minor as he tried to set the world record for jumping over seventeen Singer Vogues. But you can't have everything.

Why not? The 1-series epitomises what is wrong with modern Britain: conspicuous consumption, on borrowed money, of expensive imports which serve no discernible purpose apart from impressing neighbours and friends. GR9 choice as far as I am concerned (not that I watched any part of the olympics or the ceremonies).

Shite cred tells me this Bullet would have been a one pot diesel one!

Shame we don't have a decent motor industry to show off anymore and I agree those BMWs looked out of place, Olympic sponsor or not this was supposed to be a celebration of Great Britain. MG missed a golden opportunity to get involved and give themselves some desperately needed publicity - they might actually sell more than one MG6 if it was seen by an audience of that size. The Corsair convertible was nice though.

I'm also willing to bet that BMW employee 10 times more people at the MINI plant than Xieng Dong Car and Dangerous Toy Co do at what's left of Longbridge.

A good point, well presented. But they both have a hand in finishing off what was left of BL/Rover, and the hand of BMW, having raped the company of its profitable bits and left it to die a slow death, is the bigger and least forgiveable.

Pretty sure I spotted a couple of old MGs in there, a B and a TD-type thing. :D

What they really needed was for all the Taxi drivers to park awkwardly in the middle of the road, stopping the flow of traffic and annoying the fuck out of everyone, sounding their horns...That would have been a good approximation of British life....

Thought the Who were fantastic! 8)

Posh Spice nearly falling off the roof of that taxi was brilliant.

Did she nearly slide between the panel gap between the roof and doors?

Or between the gap 'twixt her own ears?

I met David Beckham's Dad once. he was a total fucking bell-end

I also met Geri Halliwell once. She was very nice, quite chatty & giggly (I think she was a bit drunk). She is tiny, and has hairy legs. WOULD.

I suspect the opening and closing ceremonies will have undone all the good work done by the athletes and the organisers of the bit that actually involved sport.
