BMW driving enthusiasts

Had three consecutive cars giving nods / thumbs up at the Lancia last weekend and all were BMWs. Shortly after a guy passed in a maserati 3200 and he was miserable. Did I miss a memo, are BMW drivers back to being enthusiasts and Maserati guys are now the miserable shites?

I think parting with £120 every 350 miles would wipe the smile off anyone's face tbh. My '93 6.0 XJ12 has better economy than a new Maserati. There is a QP owner who lives nearby me and he never EVER flashes in appreciation, or even waves a hand when I offer him through on the little lane on the way to civilisation. Miserable git.

There appears to be a strange illness taking over BMW drivers today, I was let out of junctions or allowed to turn right in traffic by at least 2 Beemer drivers today. Long may it continue.

It's been changing over the last few years. Or, to quote Clarkson, "all the cocks drive Audis now."

Ive also noticed BMW drivers are definately more curteous on the road these days, every day on my 40 mile round trip i will honestly see at least half a dozen near misses caused by wan-ers driving audis and the funny thing is that it only seems to be the ones with 2.0TDI badges on the back, mainly black or grey in colour. This also seems to be the case with any VAG 2.0TDI group cars including skodas, its a shame cos they are pretty good cars, its just the idiot drivers.

Solid61 - my all time favourite car is the Alfa 164 as my dad was PR manager for Alfa then, so we had the first car in the country

Lancalover-its nice to hear people with good words for the 164,ive not had mine very long but i can say its a real nice car and it never ceases to surprise me with its handling and exellent fuel economy, looks stunning in black,71k genuine and picked up locally for not a lot of dosh.

The twin spark engine is great. Not driven it in the 164 but my dad had a 75tspark and I drove a mid 90s spider spark and fell in love with the sound. The fourth car I ever drove when I was 18 was a 164 super and I can still remember having a grin from ear to ear. Treasure that car as I might buy it off you one day, if the Lancia stops costing me so much

Hi Reverend, no my father is Peter Frater, but I think I know Neil. Didn't he work at Mazda Europe before being involved in the tragic AirFrance plane crash?

I can't honestly say I've ever had a problem with BMW drivers, although I've had a few myself so I might be biased! :P

My opinion of them is that generally they're nice, well built cars and they tend to be quite agreeable things to drive.

Prefer Alfas though! 8)
