freebird Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Ive no doubt its been covered over and over but I saw this in the usual place and, to me, its so blatantly ringed........Take one Series 3 Land Rover and just rivet/stamp (delete as appropriate) the chassis number from a 66 Series 2, stick the number plates on and, oh yeah, just inform the DVLA of an engine swap from Petrol to Derv and, viola! Tax free motoring.Of course, it could be a real 66 model with a Series 3 front end, interior, etc, etc http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Se ... 4d019dd41dHopefully, this one hasnt been talked about already, if it has, ive wasted my fuggin time and yours.
dollywobbler Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 You'd better add a bulkhead swap to the list of S3 items. If it makes you feel better, by November it'll probably be an even earlier Series II to escape the MOT...
Louise2cv Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 I once saw a (suffix)H reg one of these: complete with historic tax disc. Could it have been entitled to it? I don't know about these things but it looked WRONG
retrogeezer Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Good luck to anyone that can get one over the rip off treasury in this way IMHO.
jakebullet Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 This one doesn't 'bother' me as much as the '90' series 2's that turn up. It could even be legit... I almost built one. I had a genuine series 2 that had a meeting with a micra and a lamp post. I was left with 1 straight door, and bought a right pile of random bits. 110 bulkhead, mix of series 2 & 3 panels. Then found out the chassis was banana'd so gave up and flogged the bits. What's a 'tax exempt' id worth? I've still got the chassis plate, and I think it's still on the dvla computer. I never declared it scrapped... NOT that I'd sell it, honest!
freebird Posted June 1, 2012 Author Posted June 1, 2012 Good luck to anyone that can get one over the rip off treasury in this way IMHO.There is a part of me that agrees with you. How can I be critical if ive been happy smoke ciggies that havent had duty paid on them?On the other hand I want to hang benefit scroungers and the like. Most of us are hypocrites in all fairness.Thing is, that one is ridiculously blatant. Someone recently got found out by trying to sell, obviously,on the very same site, a post 76 Scimitar with the I.D of a pre 73 one. You couldnt even say that pre and post Scimitars even looked similar. The twat even left a trail of internet evidence showing what he had done.Maybe a good massaging of the system is ok, at least be clever about it, but whoever did the deed on that Landy was a nutsack.
Albert Ross Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 It's not just a S3, it one of the latest types, servo equipped, asymmetric rear grabhandles. it might even have 24 spline halfshafts.. it has the numberplate on the nearside of the tub, where it was placed after 1980, when the foglight was positioned on the offside...... It's not the absolute latest type with the separated rear lights though.... but very bloody nearly. Shop the cunt.
willswitchengage Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Re that Transit-engine Defender that'd been reg'd as pre '59 or whatever, that's forgery and tax evasion you'd be going down for if you get caught? Not small crimes, the latter is gaol time. Sadly car cloners is pretty much impossible to catch...
