55bloke Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 Attended the Sheffield Festival of Transport, in Graves park, on Sunday. Quite a big event with a nice selection of vehicles from buses and lorries, through classic cars, to a healthy contingent from the "Kroozers" fraternity. Nice to see such a variety all in one place. Having said that, I was quite surprised by what WASN'T there- not including the modern, modified stuff, there was no J tin, and my 25 was the only French car on show. The weather was also somewhat changeable!! As usual, took FAR too many pics, so will try and post only those I hope will be of interest to some or all on here. Going to start with some commercials, about which I know very little!Late 40's Bedford?No idea!'74 Merc - I only know coz it's written on the front!! Kitted out as a camper inside.Lovely Bedford camper, but why would you fit reflective number plates?in company with equally lovely Commer?

Cavcraft Posted July 1, 2008 Posted July 1, 2008 I seem to remember that Opel convertable as it's almost certainly the one which was at a Vauxhall show right opposite the Ellesmere Port plant this year. Owner was a star and told me all about the car but alas I can't remember a sodding thing about it :(Merc van rocks a phat one and I think the Bedford camper is a Debonaire (sp?) model.

HUGE!!Had to include this.... phenomenal amounts of time, effort, and money expended, and yet.............Couldn't resist including this pic.The sun didn't last!When it reached this stage, I called it a day! Infuriatingly, an hour or so later, it was clear and sunny again! Don't you love English Summer?

I used to drive one regularly in the mid 60`s. It drove like a garden shed on wheels, cornered like an elephant on a skateboard, and accelerated from 0 to 60 in 50 minutes. Also had the endearing habit of the gear stick coming off in my hand, usually in the middle of a busy high street, causing chaos. I carried paper wrapped in reams, and on one occassion had stacked it in the back on pallets cos I was only driving just over a mile. Of course, I had to do an emergency stop after gawping lavisciously at an open top Triumph Herald tenanted by 3 rather delightful nymphettes. Result ? I was trapped against the steering wheel by the falling paper. No elf`n`safety in the cab in those days ! That little episode taught me to keep my eyes on the raod. Most of the time.

That's what my ambulance was underneath, one of them. Handling wasn't its strongest suit, and it didn't seem particularly keen on driving in a straight line either - it wandered around like a Series II Land Rover on mud tyres. I don't think I ever got it as high as 60 (I only drove it about eight miles before the prop snapped) but it definitely wasn't a ball of fire either...

I always envy folks in the Southern end of the country for all the great events they get that we don't!! Top of my list is the Goodwood Festival of Speed- I'd LOVE to attend that, but would need to remortgage the house to buy the petrol for a return trip from here!!

At the May show (they have two a year) we had the following: Stunning white magazine featured Firenza (Cogger's from RR's car), Mark (Reanimation)'s Mk3 Fiesta van, my 190E, a Daimler Series 3 XJ V12, a shark nosed Beemer, Mk1 Escort, various classic J-tin and a couple of others I've forgotten about (sorry ). In fact here's 'our' line up which should hopefully show most, if not all, of them... *Gratuitious shots of my Merc... A couple of random shots of other interesting motors. I didn't take anywhere near enough pictures but there should be quite a few still on show on RR... If anyone's interested in going (and 'displaying' their car) please pm me. I think we're limited to about fifteen cars and have a good eight or nine already interested. Oddly enough it only costs £2.50 to display your car (includes passengers by the way) and about £6.00 or more to get in as a spectator. The scenerey, back drop, castle and local area are stunning and if the weather stays nice it's a brilliant day. There's usally absolutely every kind of car you can think of there plus some you probably couldn't and it's a shite spotter's delight!
