SambaS Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 RIP The man who brought us the Shelby Omni GLH-S (2.2 Turbocharged Talbot Horizon)
morris_ital_lover Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Few people have come close, he's up there with a certain E. Ferrari. RIP
M'coli Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 What a guy - in his early years he had a heart problem that I believe prevented him from being a regular F1 driver, he and Roy Salvadori won the 1959 Le Mans for Aston Martin. Somehow, if he'd been a Grand Prix driver, I don't think he'd have achieved the status he holds. Truly a leg-end. I have my Mum's 1959 Le Mans book somewhere, given to her as a Christmas present - it's an amazing tale, but also damaged, because I split milk on it when I was 10
e287yba Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Hertz in Florida ordered a batch of Shelby Mustangs for one of their fleets. Unfortunately they were almost all written off by the delivery drivers due to a rare frost and the icy roads that tend to go hand in hand with freezing temperatures... In Florida? It happens occasionally! The world is a poorer place without eccentrics like Carroll Shelby .
Justin Case Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Carroll Shelby was a great character who gave us some iconic cars and the world will be the poorer for his passing. Thankfully though we will still be left with the enduring image of the laid-back Texan in the 10 gallon hat. RIP RIP The man who brought us the Shelby Omni GLH-S (2.2 Turbocharged Talbot Horizon) He said that GLH stands for 'Goes Like Hell'
Barry Cade Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Sad news indeed. Just watched "Rides" where they made some Elanor replicas- Carroll Shelby was interviewed and gave some great info on early Mustangs. Ford seemingly gave him $1500 to develop the first Shelby Mustang prototype..
