Super clean - nay, mint - '77 Fiat 128 3p spotted on the A34 near Bicester today. Cracking little car back in the day. Lass than 10 left on the road would you say?

According to a 1978 Glass' Guide these came out in Jan 76 - but there was a 128 Coupe from 1972 and I can't picture it for the life of me.

I'm sure I've seen that 128 3P before, somewhere...The earlier model had a similar front end, but wasn't a hatchback - called by some the "cowhipped" model 'cos the rear 3/4 windows curved up over the wheelarch.

cow-whipped?:shock: I think that one may have appeared in PC (or similar) recently.

Heres the earlier one..

That's it! Quality. I liked the crazy striping of the late 3P's, Berlinetta I think they were badged. There used to be one on a W-plate decomposing hereabouts a few years back; long gone, like the 2dr Hillman Avenger it shared a front lawn with

Always liked those 3p coupe's - lovely looking car.

The 3p is definitely better looking. I recall the Mother of a Girl at my school having a new one in 77/78, a bright turquoisy blue colour common on 127's.

Why does rotting continental crap always have an Avenger as it's stablemate? (I'm thinking of the R14 in Hitchin here)

Here's its twin sister at Beaulieu some 3 years ago.

I was going to check it's last known position the other day, just for you. Then my chuffin' van broke.

There used to be a green one of these , OFS 77P in Linlithgow which the owner restored in 1995, but it seems to have disappeared from its home now :( (still has his p-reg MK 2 Escort tho!)

i remember a wee old wife driving that, she comented on how nice my 131 sport was, i think she sold it,i did see it later at a garage at whitecross, but the owner wasn't about.

Darn it! Well if you do get a chance! - lot easier for you then for me down here on t'coast! Would like to know so I can put it to bed if it 'no longer exists' & if so then Hitchin has lost it's most famous landmark (with me anyway) stuff St Mary's church!

Yep thats her - she still drives the Escort but not very often, I think the 2 cars co-habited for a while. I can see a wee trip up to Whitecross coming to see if its still languishing - its currently on SORN, which I hope means its tucked away in a garage, and not Sitting Off Road Neglected!Edit: You have a 131 Sport?!!

did have,i sold 2 the other year, now in ireland,i would also try a farm on the road from linlithgow to boness road,u guy did work on cars there, i think there was a rotting rover p5 at the entrance,if that helps.

here is an old pic of one of the sports,

Love the 131 :D:D That garage is called Lochview Car Repairs. I was up there last year as my mates parents own the farm buildings there - and there was only an old XJS left there now :( There used to be a Metallic grey Sport that languished in a garden in Muiravonside, but its gone now too

yup and guess who got it! it was totally rotten, i had to put a ratchet strap all the way round it to keep the doors closed.also one of the strangest car deals i have ever had.did you ever see the guy that stayed there?more brochures found the day,go have a look !cheers

Lol it was you then - I could only see the top of the 'screen latterley as it was moved to the back garden - and even that looked fubared lol! You get anything useful from it?I remember there was a Fiat Croma there too. I didnt see the owner but the place looked a bit ramshackle. There are several places out that way that are shite havens, one just outside Avonbridge (renault Haven - 55 Bloke would like! and a Volvo Graveyard towards Slamannan - you sould check them out if you are out for a jaunt!)Oh and replied to your thread about the Fiat Brochures - consider them 'dibbed' by me lol!

aye saw the volvos at slammanan, remember the croma, the guy had the remains of a supermirafiori round the back along with a herald.the croma was an auto as the guy had his legs amputated,he also had his teeth and nails adjusted(?) so they went to a point, like talons/claws.that unusual deal with the 131,after getting the door shut in my face a few times, i finally got somewhere, i offered £100 for the sport (still too much) but no the guy wanted £150 no less, spoke to his wife, she said i'll give you the £50 to add to your £100 ! please buy it,but i want a seat in your sport to remind me of better times ! err ok no probs.deal done lets get outa here!ps you know john watkins or graham mcabe?

Posted

Lol persistence paid off then. Did you manage to salvage anything off it?What do you drive now?I love driving past the Volvo graveyard as I call it!Dont know the 2 guys you mentioned - are they into their shite also?

Posted

aye got loads off it,those guys are into old stuff big time,i have a 20v turbo fiat coupe and a tipo sedici thats undergoing a turbo conversion, i also brake coupes aswell, what you got iain?

Posted

Did you sell your 131 to a chap called Kevin? Theres an Irish 131 Sport Enthusiast on www.131mirafiori.com who has several left hand drive exmples. My italian car ownership only stretches as far as my Astra Bertone Coupe just now. I love it, but hope one day to own a second car, something Saloon, Italian rare and forgotten in the UK!!
