Google tells me is a c.1964 Toyota Tiara - a new one on me.  Love it.

Well Skiz, I thought it was a Mk1 Corona. Good Googling - it turns out it's a Mk2 Corona, also known as 'Tiara'.

The Corona went on to become the Carina-E to us, then the Mk1 Avensis.

There's a thought... where have all the early Avensiseses gone? Did they all live hard'n'fast as minicabs, then die young?

Anyway, the clocks have gone back here and it's getting increasingly grim up north. It can only mean one thing: It's nearly time to head back to The Land of Smiles for more spottings shenanigans.

So here to remind us of what awaits, a few from last winter:

Take your pick, one of these two is the perfect Corolla.

All the rest of these were found in the same side street:

A veritable gold-mine! I'm pleased to find Chiang Mai still holds hidden gems like that for me to discover.

Awesome thread! I've been pouring over pictures when I should be working. It's now 9:25 and I've done nothing. Woops.

Looks flipping awesome. I think those SSangyong chairmans (chairmen?) are a reskinned Merc S-class of some sort

They will use mostly Merc mechanics, you can be 100% sure of that. They were penned by an ex Merc stylist who is also a Brit. I'm not sure if they were reskinned or just used the same platform. But use this picture to decide for yourself...Looks like a mutated version of the Bruno Sacco original.

Thanks Partridge.

That Chairman was the only one I've noticed in Thailand, if there are any more, they must be blending in with the rich and powerful, in their chauffeur-driven Diana spec mercs.

Have some more tarmac tat:

That's a Fortuner working as a metered cab! It almost makes sense, as it'll hold seven, but cost less than a Camry to buy.

A closer look at that Espero. My mother-in-law had one just like this:

This has a market stall packed onto it's roof, probably laden with stock too:

The good old Dream 100. Those in the know say that this angular "ducktail" model was the most bomb-proof.

P1140364_zps53de6890.jpg

The one behind is a Dream Excess, 90cc I think.

P1140365_zpsa6e47f31.jpg

In 2003, I rode on a Dream Excess, from Mae Sariang, up the Burmese border to MaeHongSon, and back via Pai to Chiang Mai, all in one day. For a woman. Good God I was sore after that! Daft bastard.

Catch of the day:

Khob kun to you too Mark!

Just for you, here's another Dream 100. This type of thing is fairly common in the mountains around the north - stripped back and modified for off road use.

And being a Ducktail, it's the envy of the village!

Tata Nanos?
I've only ever seen one (did I post the picture yet?), so I guess they're not sold officially. They'd have MEGA import taxes too.

Edit: Yes I did share it already - start of the last page.

That ducktail thingy using a chain as a footpeg is ace. Well done crazy asian dude, imagination to personalise your pocket rocket*

Here's my old one (brilliant machine, despite the drum brakes), as seen on the first page of this thread.

It was a 125, and just about the last of the great Honda Dreams. The styling hints at the old Ducktail.

Anyway, you can see the foot-pegs - a nice squashy rubber is just slid onto the steel rod, which is bolted to the gearbox.

These rubbers slide off really easily when off-roading (they catch on stuff, ask me how I know), so the welded chain would work well.

It still looks rough because pruning was so overdue, but it'll be right in no time.

I'm now ON IT ("It" being Leo beer on the rocks, through a straw), so if I post any more today it'll be absolute bollocks.

I'll leave you with a little puzzle.

Here's a pic of my dials going mental and my mileage whizzing around, whilst sat in traffic in "Big-C" car park, but what's that ahead of me?

On the plus side, I only have only one warning light showing there - I was up to six at one point today!

Closer Tayne, but it's a 'bit' posher than an Innova.

It is a Jap brand, but probably only made in Thailand.

Edit: Assembled across S-E Asia, and sold in some developing markets.
