155V6 Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Found it on Ovalchat, they've got a thread about the Tagora on eBay Whoa, hold on there - is this going to get bought by a banger racer and sent to its death then? Don't think there's any plans for that, they were just discussing it as being a rare car,I bet a lot of people haven't even seen one before.

As 155v6 said, most old tin that appears on the web will be highlighted through ovalchat just like our ebay tat thread... naturally very little that appears there will get raced also the first Tagora has been taken years and years ago so there's not all that much cred in doing it esp as it is unproven, most will stick to grannies and corts. IIRC that 28DL thread has caused a right shitstorm across the web due to what happened afterwards to the site.
trigger Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 What was the story as i don't follow 28DL, didn't most of them get stolen?
SambaS Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 What was the story as i don't follow 28DL, didn't most of them get stolen? I'm keen to hear too. That's the problem with the web. Crims can scope out stuff to pinch so easily. Also just got what Oval Forum must be. I thought Ford at first, not banger racing
flat4alfa Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Not just the cars. Their ebay accounts were busy clearing the place out

Louise2cv Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Little bit off topic, but an added problem with "urban exploration"... even if those explorers are up to nothing more than having a look/taking pics they tend leave the property unsecure and once published, highlight what's "available" in empty buildings. OH is both a copper and an active member of a local civic society and he occassionally checks out sites such as 28DL, not so long back a place featured on a site was stripped of lead and copper not long after. At the end of the day, empty or not, it is somebody's property and somebody has to pay for the damage eventually.
Louise2cv Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 I didn't say ban it, I actually find the pics interesting, and I find some ofthe waste esp of buildings quite criminal in itself. I suppose I'm guilty of generalising in the same way we can about banger racers. I imagine though that like most hobbies you're going to have those who stick to "the rules" and those who don't. All banger racers can show you a receipt and V5 and no explorer has ever peeled back a piece of wood over a window? On the other hand I'm not stupid enough to think that crooks wait for an explorer to do all the breaking in for them. As for effective policing and a police presence it's easy to say but when you find out just how thin the thin blue line has actually been spread.... The bobbies really can't do much than patrol the areas that their managers tell them to patrol and respond to 999 calls. That doesn't leave much room for the kind of policing that will happen upon trespassers/metal theives etc. Thank the govt for that.
Louise2cv Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 It was a shite way of putting it but I was actually trying to counter the "don't urb.explorers rob stuff?" idea that usually crops up. I suppose the flaw in my arguement is that if stuff goes missing after someones been exploring it has to be because someone's been exploring, which I guess I'd have hard time proving? Hope my chuntering hasn't offened you Tayne.
Louise2cv Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 I suppose like with gardens full of rotting cars it's up to the owner if they want them to rot, but some of these building really deserve more! There are only a few I've really taken a real look at (from the safety of a laptop ) and chatting to people who know about the history, like the hospital in Denbigh. Amazing old place. Don't get me started on empty houses either! There a gorgeous little cottage by us that apparently (and I guess thats the dangerous assumption part out of the way) is being left to fall down because the owners were refused planning for either knocking it down and building something else or for major alterations. What a waste!
SambaS Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 Three and a half hours to go, who is the mysterious 1 bid'er? 'been the sole bidder for a few days. Oh and don't all bid against each other!!
TagoraSX Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Well, my chap has just emailed me with some bad news.... "Considerable rust all round sunroof panel on main roof and above front and rear screens under vynil -not a good prospect, methinks, so vinyl would need removal, to open, nodoubt, a can of worms" "Overall, you really have to want to own this car, as it needs a lot of workto get it even to presentable condition."
Skizzer Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Well, my chap has just emailed me with some bad news.... Hope some hero saves it. Not gonna be me though.
SambaS Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 I'd take it on.... new roof from France if it's that bad. But it isn't worth me speculating I don't have £850 and I'm not all sure it's the same value for money it appeared in light of what you've just said. Not cheap getting a roof swapped but I've seen it done on a Saxo rally car. It wouldn't bother me in the slightest driving it afterwards either, I know a lot of people would be bothered.
TagoraSX Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 I've just done it on an Audi 200 and it wasn't easy, or cheap!
Skizzer Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 ^although, if I may say so, the result was spectacular.
25v6turbo Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Is this actually the only SX in the country both on the road or not? What versions where the other ones ages ago in the U.K,the white and red ones i think?
Mr_Bo11ox Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 I'd have a crack at it, if I didnt have half a Biturbo to weld up. Roofs a big flat panel, how hard can it be??
trigger Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 These are Boodydoo's, the red one is also a 2.6 SX whilst the white one is a 2.2 GL model, There's also this SX model that Brammy saw too so there are a few about. 1980s Talbot Tagora SX Saloon. by bramm77, on Flickr Oh and there's also this 2.6 SX that's currently on SORN.
SambaS Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 It would be the finding a doner car or the holy grail: the nos panel that would slow you down. It may take years. Nice excuse to go to the International shows in Europe though.
SambaS Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 Very nice, still havn't seen one upclose, first heard of them in 'the cars that time forgot' book I had as a kid. I always hoped to see one at the Simca OC events over the years but not been so lucky, and I'm not subscribed at present
SambaS Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 Did anyone see the one on eBay a few years ago for spares, if you did you will know the one I mean it was, erm. Absolutely goosed. Beyond terminal...
trigger Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 It was nearly Keith Adams until i pointed him to this thread!
