CortinaDave Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 It is bloody lovely. Shame they're so uncommon now.
ProgRocker Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Big Vauxhalls, ftw. My parents ran a silver '79 Royale 2.8 auto in the mid 80s. Sadly had to go after a year or so as it was costing shit loads to run. A new water pump required at a cost of £270 and sub 20 mpg was hurting. As an 8 year old, I was crestfallen.
Captain Mainwaring Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 0-60 in seven seconds is exceptionally fast for a barge, surely? I've always liked Senators.
ashmicro Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Such a great looking motor that, Pete. And some excellent pics from Mr J Watanabe Esq. I'll not get anyone into trouble with this: many years ago my mate Darren (RIP) caught a big fucker trying to nick his Metro GTa. Daz took the screwdriver off the bloke and stabbed him through the hand with it. Also, this is how car thieves are dealt with up where my mate Davy lives: yes, you read that right, he was crucified. McCartan was arrested 86 times for vehicle related crime, yet the Courts refused to deal with him properly. He was also arrested for Assault on Police (a mate of mine had to chin him), Perverting the course of Justice, resisting arrest and Section 5 Public Order offences. And they still didn't lock him up. Anyway, I digress - that's a fine machine Pete.
Pete-M Posted March 18, 2012 Author Posted March 18, 2012 They let him off too lightly. Should have nailed him to a burning speed camera. Gotta give this thing some credit. Last night in the rain it was utterly stable and composed. Some of that will be the newish Michelins but a lot of it is down to a decent chassis. Speed sensitive steering works. How Vauxhall fucked up everything since is beyond me. Top photos Jon. Good man. Can use the garage for photos next time, Rig etc.
Guest Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Great pics of a fine car, one for the calendar methinks. Do you have a very steady hand or were you using a tripod? They were all on my '6th form college special' Jessops tripod. There's no chance of anything hand held at the time of night I was shooting, and especially with the Holga lens because of the massive length of exposure it needs. In decent light I can shoot steadily down to about 1/20 without wibbling the camera all over the place. As soon as the light goes down, out the tripod comes. It's annoying because certain framing opportunities go out of the window. The Holga is much better in direct sunlight. I'll bang some photos off of the 460 very soon, because I'm heading down to the unit. It's lovely here at the moment.
Spiny Norman Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Wonderful cars these old Vauxhalls. I had a couple of Royales and had a good poke about a Senator just like that one a few years ago with a view to buying it and I remember how well it drove.
dollywobbler Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 The Senator is an itch I really need to scratch. Chances of me having any money when this comes on the market? Nil. Sod.
