Shite in Miniature II

If you can look past the odd scale, though, the Airfixs are heads and shoulders above that total rubbish that Revell

wants to entice them yoots with. I wouldn't have looked at that tosh when I was four.

The easy clicks are certainly not aimed at the youngsters, it even says 10+ on the boxes, but going by what I experience

with the Porker tractor, any ten year old would be way overchallenged. The model is on a similar level as the old

Tom Daniel Monograms when it comes to required building skills.

Besides, if you really believe you don't have to paint these, as Revell claims, you won't end up with anything nice at all.

To be fair, the tractor is incredibly detailed and built with conventional kit building methods yields an outstandingly

good model.

I also don't quite get why Revell is suddenly digging up the long since deep sixed 1/16 scale that nobody does anymore

(a lone MG6 notwithstanding). It's no bloody wonder they have to file for Chapter 11 every other year.

I think instead of doing the Beetle, they'd have been better off doing something like the original Mini, especially with the kits being injection moulded in the UK

Indeed, surprised the old Imai tooling got rehashed by Revell to do the FX4 cab, it was crude at best

Posted

I have just searched for 1/18 Solido on eBay and, discounting the old 1990s stuff there is a reasonable choice available and Im also surprised at the price, around £40 - £45 posted. The later version of the Renault 4 and Citroen Dyane look good but its the 5, 16 and Citroen Ami that I really wanted to find.

I also agree on the EFE complaint. They have some really accurate castings such as the Alexander Y type but, particularly with the latter, they spoiled the updated tooling issues in Scottish liveries by not making enough of them. A Midland Scottish example now retails at over £100, if you can find one.

And out of scale. It's closer to 1/20, which Imai always said it is.

Solido is alive and well in Nuremberg. The cars cost (with few exceptions) markedly below 40 Euros at MCW,

postage to the UK is 7 Euros per order, regardless how many models it comprises.

I thus again wonder who the UK distributors think they are.

The 5, 16 and Ami are by Norev and a tad more costly, but also more finely modelled.

In fact, I think Norev are the best bang for the buck all things considered.

But back to Solido for a moment.

They evidently didn't manage to get the Magnum closer to production, despite they now published a suggested retail price of 120 Euros.

Once released, it will be the only big lorry in 1/18 apart from the NZG Mercedes Actros.

The remainder of the lineup consists of quite a few new (IMO attractive) colour variations and some quite interesting WIPs.

I can spot a 205 GTI, Super Seven, Alfa GTV, Bugatti Atlantic (!) and two Alpines, an A310 and a new A110 if I'm not mistaken,

which I usually am and thus welcome to stand corrected.

I don't quite understand why they bothered with the 500, since the relatively recent Bburago one is really good.

I appreciate however the late model Minis, which look very convincing. So far 1/18 Minis either weren't 1/18, or atrocious,

like e.g. the Kyosho ones.

The flic spec HY is quite a must I'm afraid.

I finally got some closeups of the Norev GS pre prods.

What a day of persistent nagging can achieve...

I was also told that the Renault 4CV is a new tooling in true 1/18 scale, not a warmed over ex-Solido as rumour likes to have it.

The old Solido one was 1/17 and thus always stood out like a sore thumb, remember?

But the winner for me so far is Greenlight.

Not only do they try their best to satisfy collectors of all scales, I also appreciate their sterling effort in export marketing,

which is remarkable considering they are septics. I will reward this by giving home to quite a few of their offerings.

Then rub the noses of the dinglebrained losers at Round2 into it.

Had an email from Otto today funnily enough

That Revell USA spokesman there (note that they don't have a stand at Nuremberg)

said it's going to be business as usual despite the company that owns them has filed for Chapter 11.

I've never been to university, so I haven't learned to lie like that.

Hasegawa appear to be releasing some interesting kits. I'm not really a BMW person but that '02 is rather appealing. Impressed that they've released the Isuzu too.

That Isuzu - talk about left field.

Either the car is total cult in Asia, or the Hasegawa guys had too much Sake.

If you look closely, it's a curbside despite the bonnet is a separate piece.

I bet they tooled it like that so they can make variations with little effort.

Which variations I know not, but I bet you do.

Well, this high gloss polished supercar excursion will go on until Sunday.

**** News From Nürnberg ****

In the meantime, I take the liberty to post something in the true spirit of this thread.

I pride myself in having accomplished a deal on Leboncoin, which is remarkable in its own right.

As difficult as it is to trade with the immediate neighbouring country, I must say, that whenever you reach an agreement with a Frenchman,

they turn out to be the most gentle, generous and reliable persons you've ever dealt with. The question begs as to why it is so difficult.

Anyway, here we go.

Whitewall tyred R8 shite in all its suspension sagging warped glory:

Some shite not even hardcore Norev collectors are aware of:

Some shite with stinking cylinders with holes in them:

German Wirtschaftswundershite icon personified in warped plastic:

Fintailshite in the same snot green, remarkably straight:

And cars you didn't know existed until recently - its a shite Monteverdi 375L before you ask:

So here it is, Junkman's current fleet of Norev plastic shite:

Now, please feel free to use your 'like' button to your heart's content.

I'm bloody proud of this shite.

Brilliant update in the Fair. A fair few of those Solidos that have been pictured are the same as the examoles that came up in my search of Ebay. I see why I didnt find the others too, being Norev!

Regarding the plastic 1/43rds, thats the Fiat I had, I wish I had kept it now!
