How do i wire up this stereo?

Sorry for the poor thread subject but I'm trying to wire up this £2 radio i bought from ebay into the Cortina but I've drawn a blank on the speaker wires.

This is the wiring diagram for the radio, it only has one wire for each speaker instead of the normal two.

Now the car only has one speaker under the dash which has two wires as seen here with a plug on the end, how do i wire a single speaker wire from the radio into a twin wire from the speaker?.

Do i have to scotch lock the ground cable from the radio to the black speaker wire?, Sorry if this seems like a dumb question but I've never had to do a radio like this before.

Judging by the diagram it looks like you just have to earth the speakers individually.

All the second cable is on a speaker is an earth which returns to the stereo rather than a local earth. I recall a pisspoor Hi Fi I had as a hulking yoof - it had single stereo speaker cables which were then earthed to the fastenings inside the wooden speakers

so I would get a spade connector and some low resistance wire and earth the 'negative' to a decent known earth cable...this gives you the ideal opportunity for a 'period wiring feature' of lots of different coloured wires hanging from under the dash stuck together with sellotape etc :D

Yeah, connect your negative wire from the speaker to ground, and connect either of the speaker wires from the stereo to the other

Thanks guys, I knew that someone would be able to answer it! :D As the old radio didn't have a earth I've added a black ground cable from the bulkhead to the radio, would i be able to add a scotch lock to the cable and run it to the speaker wire or would i be better off trying to find a new earthing point?

It looks like the stereo earth (black?) and the speaker negative are connected together. On 1980s Fords the earth tended to be a brown cable but something the age of a mk3 Corty might be different.

With just one speaker you might get the odd track sounds a bit funny where there's different recordings for left and right channels, though I can't think of a good example right now

If this was a modern stereo with 4 speakers and the usual 4x55wMEGABASS I'd say earth them separately, but in this case a scotchlock will be fine.

That baffled me years ago when I had the Mark 4 Escort. Muchos head scratching!

Awesome, I now have a fully working (for now) FM stereo!, I just added a new earth instead of scotchlocking onto where i added the last ground cable. Thanks for your help again!

For the full on '80s effect wire the other speaker channel to a household speaker (fake wood over chipboard FTW) on the back shelf to create sideways stereo.

What was acceptable in the 80s is still very acceptable today :D
