Cheap Scenic 1.6 Mk1 facelift, Bideford

My ol' man is getting rid of his Renault Scenic. He tells me:

Renault Scenic for sale. 1.6 Alizé 108k miles. Mot and tax 'til end March. Losing power on second cylinder so needs valves cleaning/replacing (garage cost around £500) but still runs pretty well and averaging about 35/36 mpg even with cylinder problems. Go on make me an offer!

It had the cambelt go well over a year ago, so I suspect the running issues stem from that. Obviously, it's not worth vast sums of money. It is still drivable and is available from Feb 14th. Ideal Valentine's Gift! I feel it's got to be worth £350, not sure if you agree! It's still pretty tidy.

Christ, imagine having to look at that every day.

True... but then I look at the Volvo and the petrol it consumes andI think why don't I just get a modern smoker instead?

If it's the right spec it's not too depressing. I had a 1.6 Auto Dynamique+ which had double sunroofs, full black leather, climate. I'd have that car back any day!

Not trying to be a complete arsehole, but please tell your dad it's Alizé and not Elise :D

Why did this grey goo have to envelop almost all car interiors? (I know why, but still)

My first Scenic was a Sport Alize in the Autumn gold - as it was a W plate it was one of the few with an orange interior  Later cars in that colour had a blue/grey interior.

I'd much rather spend time in that interior than the suicidal black that the car that replaced it - one of the first fat-arsed Meganes had. These Scenics with Dynamique half leather (or even Privilege full-leather) interiors, were a decent place to spend time driving. These facelift cars are also genuinely pretty reliable ** which makes them fairly unique.

** DCi models more than two years old not included :D

we had a 1.4 from Torsten for a few months last summer. Superb value family car - handles much better than a Picasso although not quite as big inside. I'd have one tomorrow for a family truck and will probably get one for the Missus and take the scoob myself.

The only reason why we got rid of it was they don't make great bangeromics sense as the consumables - especially the brakes are not that cheap..rear rotors have integrated wheel bearings and come in at 70 a corner

You arsehole!!! :P Amended accordingly. I know I'm shite on modern cars, but I should know the difference between an Elise and an Alizé MPV thing...
