I've had my gob round the door lock in the past to do this..lol

So you'd rather look like you're performing fellatio on the car? :P

Find one of these in the scrappys' off an old classic 900- I fitted this one to my 190D, along with a flat blade wiper and with the standard fit heated jets and some screenwash - no worries.

Does that not draw water out of the radiator/expansion tank though or am I missing the point sorry?

I imagine it works like a heat exchanger, the washer fluid running through a metal pipe inside the coolant pipe.

Neat idea, I'll have to look out for one.

Basically a copper pipe wrapped round a pipe which you fit in place of the rubber hose, so the water goes round the spiral of pipe and gets warmed by the coolant. Was a genuine Saab accessory in the 70s and 80s. Would be really easy to make one yourself.

Only if there wasn't a kettle available

I've got a load of copper pipe left over from the brake job - I'll see if I can knock summat up for the BX

I just ordered some 4mm copper pipe and some 4mm silicone washer jet pipe on ebay. I might even plumb it in.

I was also thinking that it gets pretty warm under the bonnet anyway. If there was 1/2 litre of washer fluid somewhere near the engine it would warm up quite a bit. You would only get one warm shot every 5 or 10 minutes but that might be enough as the fluid isn't freezing anyway.

It seems to be fine around town even from a cold start, it's 1/2 hour on the motorway that seems to get me into trouble.

It really takes a special effort to design windscreen washers that stay frozen once the engine is warmed up, but it's an effort that car designers seem to think is worthwhile.

I wonder if there's a way you could trace heat the pipes somehow? Just thought if you get a low current output from the battery to warm the pipes somehow it'd help, especially if you could lag the lines at the same time.

Whatever happened to the old washer bags that were attatched to the radiator- think Mk2 Cortina's had them?

thinks-----some old PSA glowplugs! 4 ft of wire! high voltage circuit! TOTAL BONNET MELTDOWN.....but does sound an ideal bodgers solution

Some sort of Fred Dibnahesque tea urn could be plumbed into an old Lada petrol heater and provide tea as well as hot water

@TiffX19 - here was me thinking those were some sort of coolant colostomy bag for wheezy old Fords
