Calling all Volvo fans

I've just fallen over what is reported to be a low mileage, mint condition 480 auto, I have no more details than that as yet, but if anyone is interested, I will investigate further. It will be cheap [circa £500]

I'm not sure if these have the same kind of following as the old brick volvos..or I'd suggest risking life and limb and posting it on the volvo owners club forum

WOW. Fucking love Ovlovs, but this won't be in Northern Ireland so my excitement has to be limited. 440 that I owned was mighty impressive. Had a bit of a Volvo-free spell and missed Sweden awfully, but got an S70 yesterday! I'd still love to see pics of it though :D

If it's mint it's got to be worth £500. These have a small but enthusiastic following - Watanabe knows the score on these.

If its a last of the line special edition, (can't remember the name) that ups the value. N reg I think.

Yup, white, 85k miles, black leather interior, no rust, and mint inside. Only fault, one light pod doesn't come up. I have pics, if I can send them to someone [please pm me email address]

That's not a fault, it's a feature.

The autoboxes on these are quite horrible. I still really like 480s though, my ES was a good little car. Other the mills-tronic, that sounds like it's got a lot going for it, and full leather trim on a non Celebration is pretty sought after. I will say one thing for the VOC though, if you advertise a car on there as 'mint', someone anal beard will take it upon themselves to sound you out and prove you wrong. I don't think they have anything better to do. Their favourite phrase is:

If I pay top money I expect a top car

And they like to repeat it, ad nauseum. Running manual S \ ESs can be had for buttons in reasonable nick (about £300-350) but a mint low mileage auto will probably fetch between £500-800. I'm not expert though.

I reckon in ten years or so the 480 will be the only 400 series car that's worth anything, but prices have been the same for the nat-asp models for a couple of years now.

Is it a 1.7 NA, Turbo, or 2.0? The facelifted ones (i.e. with clear indicator clusters) fetch more than the earlier cars.

Clear front indicators, I think it's a 2 lt n/a. If someone could pm me an email address, I'll send photos for posting.

send me the pictures Mr Colc, and i shall post them up

Jon - You sure you don't need another 480

Totally rot free, interior is pretty mint. I've heard it run, it seems fine, although I haven't driven it

Actually, that's lovely.

Factory snow mats too as it seems. If it has the Volvo boot mat they're super rare and make serious coin on eBay. Clear light clusters are nice and the rear ones don't look discoloured.

If everything works and the CEM is fine you're on to a winner. Any leaks around the tailgate \ rear clusters? 480s are notorious for doing that, and that's how they end up rotting. They go on the bottoms of the drivers door and rear arches too (pretty generic).

The only thing I can see standing in its way are the aforementioned VOC idiots who will endlessly debate its condition and offer you £3 regardless, and the fact it isn't on the mainland.

2 litre engine has almost as much power \ torque as the 1.7 Turbo and is slightly better on fuel, although the auto may negate that advantage.

Whack it up for £800 on Car & Classic and you should get plenty of interest. You could go to shows in that. Shows and slushboxes really aren't my thing though. I need another Volvo like I need extra ventilation in my head.

Sorry to sound unhelpful, but I don't really want to advertise it on the VOC forum on your behalf, because no-one on there understands the words 'this is not my car, I'm advertising it on behalf of an acquaintance who doesn't have a login'.

I agree - I would steer well clear of the VOC (as a member myself) - worth posting a link to the C&C ad - problem with the VOC is that it is a very broad church - you can be busy discussing variomatic on the 300 series forum and discussing daf etc when some whanger who drives an XC90 comes on and starts slagging off 300s and dafs etc - on the 850 forum unless you have a OMG T5 with 3000000000000000 BHP they are decidedly unwelcoming..the 200 series are probably the most welcoming.

there have been 3-4 of these on C&C over the last 6 months or so - they don't sell quickly buit they do appear to sell so if he is in no hurry to get rid of it I agree that £800 on C&C would be a plan -you might want to include a discount for the cost of a V5 and MOT
