  1. I've used gaffer tape to seal up the leaky sunroof on my recently acquired Volvo 740, and so far it has withstood heavy rain on a long motorway trip. If you do a neat job and push it down thoroughly, and layer it up at the joins, I've found it to be quite effective in the past (but it does require replacement once a bit of weathering has happened and it loses it's stickiness). Just consider it a service item. Change oil, replace gaffer etc :)

  2. Is that Montego the beigest car ever? It seems to be a shade of beige that conveys even less excitement than regular beige.

 BL Oyster beige it's called, but the photo makes it look even more dull. I've grown to rather like it now, but probably wouldn't have been my first choice of colour if I was buying it new!

(turns a blind eye to the Metro pic... )

  3. Thanks for the welcome chaps :) Yes it was my Monty at Brooklands, did any of you see the white Montego Mayfair that was also there? Lovely motor, I'll try and find a piccie of it, makes mine look a right crusty old thing!

Re the Metro, yes that was my car at Nene Park Seth - I noticed your photo on here last year of it, I'm glad someone appreciated the books casually thrown in the back

Wasn't me in Hersham though brammy, unless my one has been knicked from the driveway! I live in South East London, probably not that far from Torsten's manor as I'm sure I've seen a few of his cars around.

  4. Hello everyone :) Having been a lurker on the forum for ages, I thought it about time I actually registered and made a post. Being a child of the 80s I’m mostly into cars of this period, although I find pretty much anything automotive of interest .

I’ve currently got four glorious objects of shite:

miniMetro L in hearing aid beige – a great little car that I really should use more often as it always makes me grin when I drive it. Some people take the piss out of me owning this, but I frankly don’t care. The Metro Owners Club are also a really good bunch of people which helps no end – I’ve found having a positive club experience has made me enjoy the car even more.

Rover 114 SLi CVT auto – the ‘daily’, motoring on the cheap (if you ignore the fact it’s just needed a new headgasket). Can’t really fault it apart from that, and serves me and the missus well. If you put all thoughts of NCAP ratings out of your head it’s a nifty little driver.

Rover Montego 2.0 GSi auto – believe it or not this is one of the best, and cheapest, cars I’ve ever owned (does that mean it isn’t shite?!). The driving position suits me perfectly, it’s comfortable and quick, and I love the way it looks . The usual rot issues though, mostly in the door bottoms and the rear arches. The idea was to just use this over the winter and then trade up to a mk1 Rover 800, but I’m happy to remain in middle-management for the time-being. This one is on a SORN and in storage whilst I play with my new purchase...

Volvo 740 GLE 2.3 Estate – I’ve only had this a week, and apart from a leaky sunroof (gaffer taped it up, sorted) and a dodgy temp gauge it seems OK. The previous owner had the auto ‘box re-conditioned at a cost of £1,100 so it seems a bit odd he wasn’t bothered at seeing what temperature it was running at! I shan’t be keeping this one long (famous last words) as I bought it on the flimsy pretext that we need a big estate car to help with a house move next month. I Paid £450 for it which didn't seem too bad considering it's got a full MoT. Some may say I could have haggled a bit more, but to be honest once I've decided I want a car I can't be arsed and will gladly just hand over the folding!

By the way, this forum often has me in stitches some of the stuff you lot get up to – keep up the good work!

    Rob
