The bromley Motor Works (Kent) LTD ?Chinese Garage?

Hi Guys

I have finally received all the info from the DVLA on my triumph dolomite 1300 (BMX)

The car turns out that it was first registered with Bromley Motor Works Ltd,Kent

Been trying to find dealership stickers for the rear window (even a photo would do ) and other items (such as tax disc holders and key rings) that the dealership may have offered with a new vehicle.

photo's of the chinese garage (as it is also known as) as a BL garage would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Our pug 206 came from the Chinese Garage or Pagoda Garage as it used to be called before BMW got hold of it. I can let you have a photo of the sticker in the rear window (car is W reg). Not sure we have any other stuff knocking about but I will ask Mrs D. The Garage is on a roundabout at Park Langley near Elmers End. Used to live near there when I was a spotty yoof driving a multicoloured Austin A30.

This is on my manor, I remember the day when you could buy petrol from the Chinese Garage back in the 80s. It's now a Peugeot and Kia dealer (part of the Masters group) but can't recall it ever being BL or Austin Rover. Our local one in those days was Sargeant & Collins in Bromley. I'll get a current photo of the garage if you like when I'm out and about tomorrow.

Just been doing a little research and my mum actually suggested that maybe "the bromley motor works" was a "sub title" and not the actual name of the dealership - after looking on the wiki the chinese garage was once named "langley garages ltd" But searching this, and sergeant and collins. Hasn't yet brought up any information or photo's of it back in the day of selling any cars except photographs of it now, selling peugeot cars.

I would like to find a photo of the dealership rear window sticker.

Thanks for all the help :)

A few random brain cells are telling me that Bromley Motor Works Garage was on Masons Hill and was a Ford dealer in the sixties/seventies. My parents went there to have a look at the Ford Escort when it first came out. When the car door handle came off in mum's hand in the showroom they just walked out. I was disappointed because I thought it would be cool!

I don't think the Chinese garage was big enough to be a proper main dealer, may have sold a few cars but mainly did Petrol and repairs in my day. I don't remember ever buying petrol from them though, probably because I had an account at the Garage on Corkscrew Hill, West Wickham. Three gallons for a pound... I must be old.

Im beginning to think that something just might be a miss here somewhere,As i can't find any information on Bromley motor works ltd (as a company or the company status) been told by 1-2 people by other sources that the chinese garage "might not have been a BL or Triumph dealership or distributor" (going on their memory).

and in wiki it says the chinese garage was actually named"langley park garages" ?

Trying to track down this particular garage is proving somewhat of a challenge!

Please if anyone has any photo's or any information of bromley motor works ltd,Kent and or the surrounding BL/triumph,jaguar,rover dealerships or distributors of around 1970-1979 (my car is a 1979). This will be much appreciated!!!!! :D

Thanks in advance

My Dad's last car, a Rover 218SLD was bought from there in 1995, it was a Rover dealer at the time and BL before that. In about 1998 it went over to Peugeot. It was selling petrol as a Texaco probably until the early 1990's

I phoned the dealership up today, it was a rover dealership before it was a peugeot dealership, the person on the phone, couldn't tell me if it was a BL dealership, but strongly suspected it was.

After a little bit of digging and searching "i could be wrong here" But "The bromley motor works ltd" sounds as though it could have been a "master company name" eg a name you don't see on a dealership. and was supplied to "langley park garage"

I have seen classiccapsule website However if i was to get a copy sticker made up, I would first need a photograph of the original sticker that would have been applied to the rear window, thats currently what I am missing and its really the last piece of the puzzle ( I strongly suspect I won't be able to obtain photographs of the dealership tax disc holder and reg plate stickers) however the dealership rear window sticker us something i would really like to have.

Anyone have any photographs of the chinese garage as a BL or rover dealership? and anyone have a dealership sticker supplied by the chinese garage as a BL or rover garage?

Many thanks!!

Sorry to drag this up again, but I found a photo pn FlickR with a Rover 827 Coupe wearing the 'Chinese Garage' sticker. Click on the photo and select 'Original' size photo to see the sticker a little more clearly. Its not the best but gives you an idea.

Slightly off thread, but RobT, or boybiffa, would you know if " BROMLEY MOTOR CARAVANS" are / were also in that area ?

My fiat 900e was supplied new from there, as were others, there was one in a period B&W road test supplied by them in the '80's.

cheers ! :D

Interesting, do a net search for it and you end up with an address in Abbey Road, Belvedere which is in neighbouring Bexley borough not Bromley :?

Torsten may know as he recalled better than I did that the Chinese garage was once BL.

Thanks for that, RobT, I had already done a lot of googling on Bromley motor Caravans, and believe they no longer exist;

but just wondered if anyone remembered them at all, I do not know the area, but was born in Dartford, ( Hi KEEF !) and could see Bexley across a heath,

past a loony bin, if i remember ( i was only very small then  )

In May, I returned to uk, and tried to get to Chelmsford from Gatwick, just using my bus pass (clue, i am an old git  ) but could not get further than Bromley ! So I gave up, ended up in Beckenham for the night, before catching the X26 from E.Croydon to Heathrow (2 pounds, but free for me. brilliant.) There were some big Fiat panels I had bought online in Chelmsford, Roxwell to be precise = Area 51

MANY THANKS FOR SHARING THE PHOTO OF THE DEALERSHIP STICKER!!! ( I know its rover related but... I can simply change the end logo to a BL logo and bingo,As i strongly believe these stickers didn't change a great deal + it also means I can now have the tax disc holder made up too, going on the general idea, font of the text etc.)

I can't say for 100% certainainty as regards to the "bromley motor caravans Ltd" But.. I strongly suspect that the main owner of this name"bromley motor works" had a fair amount to do within this kind of area and sales etc.

heres what company house had to say about the bromley motor works ltd

If they are the one I think they are, they're a Renault dealer now. New and second hand.

Want me to check it out? I cycle sort of in that direction every day and can get a photo if you like.
