Is this a Renault 12?

I photographed this Brazilian Ford in Brazil. Is it my imagination, or does it have a hint of Renault 12 about it?

Must be just me, but those wheels are the most Renault-esque looking part of the car. What's that thing behind it? Looks vaguely Polo koop-ish.

For some reason I can no longer see the pics - I could at work though. So from memory it was some kind of South American VW hatch - a Fox or something?

I seem to recall the Gol - which looked very like a Mk1 Scirocco in early form - has a Beetle engine up front, with FWD? Great spot of a Corcel, reminds me of an Opel Kadett wagon in the rear window line.

We have the Gol here - a kind of cut-down Golf - more like an Audi A3, but more shoddy. I think I saw a Gol in Brazil that was a cut down mark I Passat Hatchback - 2 doors.
