Underhand practices by insurers get noticed at court

Not a moment too soon!

"A judge has strongly criticised the way a major motor insurer recovers the costs of repairing vehicles.

Judge Platt says Royal and Sun Alliance has used a subsidiary which inflates charges simply to boost profits.

He found the subsidiary increased labour costs without carrying out any work itself and made other charges it could not account for.

RSA Insurance said it strongly refutes any suggestion that it has acted inappropriately."

Fucking crooks

If, vehicle insurance is mandatoy it is essential that Westminster gets a grip urgently and makes it work for consumer and industry asap. Such a critical part of our economy can no longer be left to the whim of market forces when the suppliers effectivly have the consumers by the balls. Driving is becoming beyond the reach of many and this is already having a huge impact on the lives and economy of those parts of the country where a car is essential. Last week alone they have seen a rise in unemployment in rural lincs in under 25 s who are priced out of the market and cannot grab to work where the average commute is 8 miles. The choice is to risk driving without insurance or to take the dole....

Come on Cleggron....sort your fekkin life out and get a national scheme in place pronto for the younger driver or we will end up with a generation of inexperienced drivers or non drivers and rural communities devastated

The fuckers have just charged me 30 quid to amend my policy due to a number plate change.

I've been interviewing people this week and the amount of people in a real pickle as they can't afford to run a car without a job, but they can't get to a job without a car.... Cars are cheap, they'll come with a bit of test and tax but BANG - insurance is the killer. We've had people turn jobs down because there's no way to get to us (Lincs/Notts border) without a car, one chap spent three hours on trains each way for his interview from about 35 miles away.

As stated, if it's compulsory then it needs to be properly regulated otherwise it's not far off being a monopoly. Admittedly one with more than one participant - a polopoly?

There was a ban announced last week on insurance comanies receiving these so-called 'referral fees', so there is something happening, though what effect it will have (if any) remains to be seen.

Agreed. This has been a complete bollocks for decades now. As said, insurance is a legal requirement, yet HMG let insurance companies use that legal requirement to charge whatever they like. There is surely some kind of price-fixing cartel going on. Some excellent advice I read on here saved a mate's SD1 recently. The insurance assessor wanted to take the car away "to be examined at another location", and my mate phoned me. I told him not to let them take the car away, as he'd never see it again. I took a run round to his house while the assessor was still there and parked my car behind the Rover so they couldn't move it (to be fair they didn't even try)

The insurers have since offered him a sum for it, and he's in the process of buying it back. The car has practically no damage and the accident wasn't my mate's fault. He'll end up quids in, as it happens.

Insurance companies=fuckdogs.

Are most insurers not operating the vehicle side at a loss right now? Banning those scumbag no win no fee parasites would be a good start

Have a look at the story. The 'loss' is the result of accounting more than anything else. RSA have a special department that does nothing but inflate garage bills and fabricate charges to be added on top of them. Better still, they 'strongly refute having done anything inappropriate'!

yeah and the cheeky fuckers have been blaming the drivers for years but the figures don't add up - thanks to mundane eurolard boxs PI claims which are the really expnsive ones are way down from 10 years ago - it's their own dabling in the sale of our details to the no win no fee gang that is causing it. Typical fucking monopoly - you give a business a captive customer who has no choice and they will, naturally bunch together and as the customer has limited choice thanks to their price fixing mechanisms (I mean shard databases) the poor bloody customer gets rogerd by them....

I'd open the market up to global companies - see how the cunts like it then

fuckers - I have £180 leaving my account next week - last year it was £100 for a 535i and an 850!

Yes and no. Effectively, they can only sell insurance if they set up operations here, become involved in the MID/ABI and all that shite. Which is completely bonkers when you think that most people nowadays never get to see anyone from their insurance company.

"Cartel" - not entirely dissimilar to those South American 'businessmen' who specialise in Colombian marching powder...

I still think all this with rising insurance costs can be blamed on the credit culture which blossomed when new labour was in power.

As everything was being paid for on the never never, and with so many people doing it, the price of EVERYTHING (not just insurance, utilities, having a tradesman round to do a job etc.)went up. It's called supply and demand.Just bought a new car? No problem - that four figure insurance premium can go on your finance agreement / credit card etc.

Fast forward a few years, the wheels have fallen off, they will charge the people who pay even more simply to cover the cost of the ones who can't.The shareholders have to be kept happy don't they?

I purchased a new washing machine last week, cost £299. I was offered a five year warranty for £156 - thats about 52% of the purchase price. No prizes for guessing what my reply was.
