local cheap family chod required urgently

Folks, the MOT is up on the wife's Renner Scenic - happened last week when I was in hospital....the Renner was a stop gap picked up cheap - problem is that it's not really worth putting through the MOT as the parts required are a/ quite expensive and b/ I'm in no condition to be working under a car at the moment...

Known issues needed for MOT:

rear discs (£50 + VAT)

new pads (£20 + VAT)

Renner Caliper Tool (£25 + Vat)

new brake bleeder (£7 + VAT)

Brake Fluid (4 + VAT)

Copper Grease (£2.50 + VAT)

Wiper blades (£15)

2 Tyres (£160)

MOT (£40)

so I'm looking at a bill ofover £300 if I do it my self - slap the VAT on it and it's nearer £360... Not sure if that is all that is needed ans the exhaust is blowing and I suspect the manifold gasket.

The car ain't in great nick - needsa new back door and some panel sorting on the near side and a new nearside wing mirror. We've had a good 15 weeks out of it and done about 3k..

The interesting thing aout these cars is how disposable they are - the switch gear is extraordinarily poorly made and the interiors take a thumping.

With my health issues on top of this I'm gonna have to probably outsource the work which means another £100 at least.

Cash flow is shit until the end of the month so here's what I am thinking of doing -

weigh in the Renner - should get £180 or so

trade in the 6 month tax £100

and buy another family car for no more than £450 ideally with a good 3 months + MOT on it....

ideally another similar MPV - failing that a 5 door hatch - Golf, polo estate or 306 tdi...saloons aren't really an option. Now there is a lot of chod on Gumtree in Edinbugh at the moment - best seems t be a 4 month ticket 306 Tdi which has had cam belt and new brakes for £250...

Any ideas or does anyone know of anything going - has to be within 40 miles of Edinburgh....can't travel for this one sadly

Is this any good to you?

I was looking for about £500 for it with 11 months test and 5.5 months rent. I could deliver for expenses. 1.9n/a dizzler.

I would offer the Saab, but need a few more quid and don't fancy the £124 six-and-a-half hour train journey home!

I would use the National Express (with a jolly hostess serving drinks and tea...)

£33.60 ftw!

If I supply you with drinks and theatrical winks ( but not for a sky high fee) any chance of a few more details re the 306 Mr.Claim?

(obviously scooters has first dibs on it but if its not the motor for him it might be of interest to someone I know)

where are you scooters, just posted my neighbours Escort - see post!

*edit*

Just read the whole of your post, what a bummer you are so far away..

Ok... It's a boggo standard 306XND with keep fit windows, no central locking but it does have power steering. Loadsa tax and test, no rust problems, drove spot on in the week and 773!!!! miles myself, WAT and Minimad5 have driven it. A slightly heavy throttle pedal and a wonky rear parcel shelf is all I can think that is wrong with it. If I keep it I'll give it a full service and a cambelt but if I'm flogging it I'll leave it up to the next owner to assess it.

Usual 306 dizzler qualities of chuckable cornering and 600 mile tank range. Dunno whether it's a Bosch pump or not.

Delivery possible. I believe you're not a real shiter till you've done an epic tat delivery!

Sorry WTC, I didn't realise that was your 306, I thought it was a photo link to an ebay car! Just saw the rest of your post under the photo.
