volkswagen 924

I've been getting a slight semi for a Porsche 924...ideally an early 80s one. I really like the Blakes 7 style seats and the fact that they are obviously shite...other than that am ignorant. Has anyone owned one and what are they like to drive/own?

Whatever you do, get one with power steering....I drove one the other day without it, and it was hard work. I've driven a couple, and they're not exactly a ball of fire [sort of MGB performance] but very civilised, but not exactly exciting. Electrics and interiors seem to suffer worst, rest of the oily bits seem pretty bomb proof, and they seem to resist the rot very well

I've got a 944.

I'm guessing that a VW924 will be cheaper to insure & fuel.

A bit cheaper on engine parts

Rear window glass still over £2,000 though

Ultimately not as quick or as fast

but will be just as fast at 70mph

smooth & quietish on the motorway

& a bloody hoot around corners.

 

Pretty shit in the snow though.

Got a 924 auto banged up -used when our left (or right!) legs malfunction.

 

Dull & dependable. Rusts around the battery tray, which once breeched, drips on the fuse box beneath. Fuel pump relays seem to fail a lot -but other than that. Snooze.

I have a strange perversion to one of the also though never admitted it.Maybe its the vague Fuego rear window thingy that does it for me.I even watched the old version of Wheeler Dealers the other night. Jesus, China had zero personality in the series at that stage. 944 might be nicer

I think the entire collection of UK 924s are on eBay and with fifteen miles of my house.

 

Would have thought the 9444 would be a better bet.

I had 2 924s. The 924S was the better of the two, but as Cav says, think 944. It's a bit more moolah, but a much more complete car, and better engineered.
