Auto and shite, anyone ? (charade content)

Ive recently sold my daily driver and acquired a bit of shite to run around in as a stop gap till i get another car, it may not be of interest but in my opinion its definately shite so i thought it only fair to give it a mention on here and let everyone here know of its existence just incase its of use to anyone when it becomes surplus.

It a 1993 daihatsu charade 1.3 16v gxi automatic 5dr, i got it from a friend with a garage that took it in p/x.

The mot had just run out so i sent it in for a mot and it failed on a fractured/broken front road spring, a C/V boot, front pads and one of the washers not working, ive spent a little bit having all of this work done which may seem like a waste of money but i thought as its such a solid reliable(so far) and comfy little thing that seems to have been well maintained it was worth doing. Ive been usung it daily since the mot and it hasnt missed a beat.

It has only done 59k and has some service history/bills/loads of previous mot`s (possibly all of them i didnt count em), it appears to have just had a new radiator, has fairly recent tyres, exhaust, battery etc so there are signs that its been looked after, its also very well spec`d including electric windows, locking, sunroof, power steering, fm stereo cassette and everything works, although its a bit dull and has the odd scrape chip and dent its very solid and does not appear to have never had any welding, with a bit of tlc it should shine up well. The interior although in need of a vac and a clean is in pretty good condition with no tears, burns etc.

Its very good mechanicaly and drives well apart from an intermittent clicking of one of the front cv`s on a lock, i would imagine this is the cv that had the new gaiter/boot, it wasnt picked up by the tester and doesnt affect the drive. Its curently mot`d till the 14th of june 2012 and taxed till the end of september. I haven`t seen another one since ive owned it, come to think of it ive not seen another for years. I know its not worth a fortune, £350 would be nice as i spent a bit on the mot but let me know what you think as id prefer someone on here make use of it. Im in birmingham and i should have a new daily by the begining of august but if anyone is stuck for transport i may let it go before, so if its of any interest drop me a pm.

Great looking cars. Looked like they didn't like the rear end on the maquette and just decided to chop off the end with a chainsaw!

Nice, dont see many of them around. I might have seen this around as part of my 'not captured' collection of shite cars I see around Birmingham, your area looks familiar.

I guess if anyone is interested, for a train ticket home I might be able to deliver if its too far for anyone to travel to.

Hey that looks supa tidy. I bet its quite fun to rag around in as well, whats the auto box like?

There can't be many of those left in one piece now.

I went to look at a Gtti version once, I was quite excited to have found one for sale locally, as I'd lusted after them as a teenager.

What a shame then that I lifted the boot carpet and could see my own shoes :( and the rear shock absorbers were mounted by a frilly brown crust and some fresh air.

That must have been 10 years ago.

It drives well and the box seems fine.

That looks a little sweetie! Before that body was even launched I had a ten-year-old three-cylinder Charade which was a hoot, I was really sorry to scrap it in the end (terminal oil consumption, plus arrival of my black-on-black Princess). This could kick around the users of this forum for years as some kind of "pool car" and still be giving good service as long as people keep on top of it. We all need "just something, anything, to get to work in" from time to time, don't we?

That's a bloody brilliant idea. I've got a crisp tenner here for a 3.5% share of ownership.

I suspect you'd each have to buy it, properly, for actual cash, each time, and move it on in the same way. "Autoshite pool car now available, usual price, who's next?" That sort of thing. Somehow I don't see timeshare working.

And in ten years on RR: "1993 Daihatsu Charade automatic, tax, MoT, 437 careful owners..." :D

UPDATE

An old friend of mine that is also a landscaper came round today to cut my hedges , he took an interest in the charade as soon as he saw it, i told him the situation with it and from then on he pestered me until i let him have it. It worked out quite well as i can use the wifes car, got a fair price for the charade and got all my hedges done for nothing :D

Well done mate, I take its still gonna be seen around Brum then?

He lives in brum but he`s a funny one, he often tends to buy an old car with great intentions, then drive it very little, get bored and move it on.
