Stolen: Diecast Cars

Some scum broke into my garage a couple of days ago (whilst I was on holiday, which is nice) and as well as 2 bikes they stole a small collection of toy cars. Garage is in South East London.

I'm not expecting to see any of them ever again, but in case any of you attend swap meets or are traders (is it Mr Lobster who's in the business?) please keep an eye out for some Junior Matchbox Model-T vans, 3 in total, and 3 80s small Matchbox trucks in retro boxes that were made available to Junior Matchbox club members only - yes, I was one of those back in the 80s

Also stolen was one of these anniversary Range Rovers of which only 1000 were made in this livery. Can't remember what number mine was but can't be many of these on the open market.

I'm more bothered about the determined way they got into the garage which had pretty substantial bolts fitted, I just hope they don't come back and have a pop at the flat as the garages in our block have the flat number show above

Sorry to hear that. I'll keep it in mind though in the (very unlikely) event that I come across them.

It sounds a bit extreme to break into a lock up and steal a few old toy cars, I'd imagine they broke in looking for something more valuable but took these for their kids maybe?.

Probably some tiny banger racers innit

I've pretty much written them off, but thanks for keeping an eye out Mr L.

We moved in 2 months ago so I reckon someone has noticed me moving stuff in and thought they'd have some of it for themselves. I'd be really miffed if they had taken my tools but my new ratchet spanners, Gunsons Gastester and so on were all left.

Now all that remains is the hassle of getting a new garage door fitted, ho hum! Part of me wishes they had taken the car aswell as it's gearbox is knackered, but that remains untouched.

Bar stewards! It's bad enough that they take things you've obtained legally and carefully chose to keep for your use or pleasure, stuff they will attach no value to at all, but now of course you have all the trouble and expense of the garage door too. Get yourself a big dog and pray they DO come back...

a few years ago someone broke into my garage

they remove 34 No10 screws and took the hinges off

took a few power tools and food out of the freezer

so I put phillips head screws in and damaged the heads with a drill

a few months later they had another go, this time turning a bolt with pliers

then the alarm went off which they hadn't realised was there they gave up and never came back

either there are very few thieves around or they talk to each other I reckon

Typically if you have been robbed once you are more at risk of being robbed again a few weeks later when you have replaced all the stuff nicked with new toys paid for by the insurance.

Or you could do what my mate Graham* did, which is replace the stuff on the insurance, and then wait up every night waiting for them to come back armed with a baseball bat (short range) and a .303 rifle (long range).

Needless to see nothing has happened (yet). And no, I don't know where he got the rifle from either.

We've currently got someone who's been trying doors on the street/removing screws for the past few nights at 1am. They got into my house but I heard them and came down.

If they're back tonight they'll get a shock from next door. 3 of them waiting with baseball bats atm.

Sounds like the perps were kids, given that they took the model cars and bicycles, and not the tools, i.e., maybe they didn't know what the tools were, or that they were worth something.

Crap thing to happen either way.

On the face of it I'd agree, but if you saw the damage they did to the door and the heavy duty way it's been opened they must have done it with hydraulic lifting gear/towbar on a landie or something. The two bolts that went into the door frame which I though were pretty secure basically ripped a path through the frame, but the frame is still in place

I'm feeling a bit shit about it now as I feel I can't leave anything in there and feel less inclined to spend time out back tinkering with the car - the garage is in a shared block so was my bolt hole away from the missus! I'm sure it'll pass but I resent the way I'm feeling just 'cos some scum decided they wanted my stuff. My thoughts have also drifted to the idea that, should I catch them again, I'd like to drive 1.5 tons of Volvo 740 over their heads

In the real world, next step is to get the quotes for the garage door replacement and also look at a Garage Defender. Ideally I'd want one that has an in-built alarm that is motion sensitive but not sure if they do such a thing.

I made my own

a microswitch on each corner of the door and a siren from RS components

if you haven't got mains there are 12V sirens

after the last attack I added a timer (one of those ones with pins that you set the on off time with) so that it only goes off for 15 minutes

Highly appropriate, m'lud. Case closed.
