I don't know much, but I do know the window regs are massively frail and a bastard to get/get at. So if he's bothered about the windows working and they presently don't, it won't be a switch or a fuse, it will be a headache.

Apart from that and the obvious stuff with any car, drivetrain is mitsubishi so shouldn't be bad. Cambelt interval is quite short iirc, but I can't remember specifically how short.

Or if it's local point him at cavette's accent. Or that octavia.

Cheers Toned.

Rusty, I had a Satria (or whatever they're called) and it was ace. Not especially well built (I'd compare it to a Peugeot) but very reliable an for a cheapo they're hard to beat. I think the image (most people probably think they're shit) help in the prices stake so they're often overlooked and cheap.

Might be worth checking out the cost of a tax disc before making a decision, seem to recall a bloke down my street buying an 02 reg Wira and having to find a fair amount of readies for the guinness label, and it was only a 1.5 or 1.3 or some such,

seem to be heavy polluters these old mitsubishi lumps.

Not wrong.

Vehicle Excise Duty Rate for vehicle

6 Months Rate £143.00

12 Months Rate £260.00

At least they are reliable and easy to fix if they do go wrong unlike many other post-2000 cars. The extra £100 or so over a more modern car in road tax a year wouldn't go far in a garage.

What size is the engine?

Head-gaskets can leak oil (1.3 & 1.5L engines mainly) - here's mine which is still running perfectly today (2 owners later) after buying it at the end of 2007:

Coil packs in distributor are a weak spot - make sure spark plug gaps as set correctly.

Window winders made of low grade materials, trued to fix mine but failed - replaced with a Mitsubishi part.

I've had two - this one was excellent & flawless - 550 quid and 6 years old 32k miles - the original one owner old giffers car:

Second one was only 425 but at 7ok miles it needed attention as per the problems above:

I say get one before they changed the name from Persona to Wira - or at least try to source one before March 2001 for the cheaper road tax.

I left the silver car laid up in my mates pub car park at the end of 2009 while I was over in Florida for over 3 months - this is what it looked like when I got back..

Started first turn of the key!

They are generally reliable, cheap, basic transport at the end of the day. A Hyundai of a similar vintage will feel like a Lexus by comparision

Normally picked up for buttons, as most folks don't realise (or even care) that it's just a flimsier version of the 90's Mitsubishi Lancer.

If looking for spares on eBay etc., check listings for the Mitsubishi Carisma and the Volvo variant as they share certain chassis parts too.
