I left a note for this bloke reference the Ambassador - he phoned me up and we had a long chat. Turns out he is a massive BL nut with shed loads more cars than on show here.

That Volvo 244 is a special edition produced in 1977 to commemorate Volvo's 50th anniversary. I wonder if it was on the way to the Bromley Pageant when you photographed it?

Yeah it's the one that was on show at Gaydon until the big sell-off.

Massive BL nut or not, I'm gonna call 'twat' on the Ambassador fella for not even bothering to stick some polythene over the broken glass of it, for FUGGIN MONTHS. Bet a quid his 'storage' is a damp field somewhere.

I posted a note asking about the Ambassador asking its future and explaining its importance, the last one ever! He phoned me up and was a really nice fella. He knew all about the Ambo and explained that he bought it from Gaydon but it turned out to have been not very well looked after. Apparently its in his BL 'to-do' pile. He claims to have Itals and Marinas inc a brand new shell! He said to call in next time I'm passing... I may have to do that

To be fair, Gaydon had major storage issues a few years back, and many exhibits ended up stored outside. Some were in a right state, and I think they've still got a Leyland National decomposing on site somewhere.

In short, their overflow storage area booted them out at rather short notice. Was a crying shame though. Some absolute one-offs left outside, including a Montego signed by all the employees who built it. Permanent marker isn't THAT permanent...

 

This is why they had to have a sale and get rid of some stock.
