Hi All,

A plea for help: Is there anyone in the Reading area that has either a "f**k off" breaker bar/ extension or (even better) a serious impact gun who can help undo a rear hub nut on the 944. It's supposed to be cranked up to 350lb/ft, but god knows when it was last undone so may be even tighter. Beer/ expenses/ lift to A&E offered :D

Ta muchly,

Graham.

I have a 3/4" drive t-bar that's 2 foot long

you won't break it

I also have a 3/4" to 1/2" converter and a couple of 3/4" sockets

"you won't break it"...I admire your confidence

Thanks for the offer - I'm going to have another grunt & swear session with it this weekend and will let you know.

the 3/4" drive sockets are 1 3/8 (about 35mm) and 1 9/16 (about 40mm)

actually a fat bastard at 2 feet is about 350 lb ft I think (I have no idea how fat you are but I'm a bit)

Got a rubbish 12v Impact gun which seems to get everything off normally. Not sure what it is rated at. Just down M4 from you if you want to try it. Or I can offer fast bastard help as well!

Know anyone with a scaffold pole? There's some physics equation about levers at all that, but they usually work!1

my t-bar is 2 foot long

350 lb ft is 350 lb at 1 foot which is 175 lb at 2 feet

I weigh almost exactly 175lb (12 1/2 stone).

No scaffolding pole needed.

I suspect the last time it was tightened is was wound up to "as tight as you can f**king get it" by a gorilla with a long breaker bar. Certainly more than the specified 350lb!!

if you put my 3/4" breaker T bar on it and a trolley jack under the end of the handle, it'll either come off or break the axle.

Just a quick update for those that offered help & advice...in the end it took £11-worth of truck wheelbrace (thanks eBay), a 6-foot scaffold bar, 3 grown men (ranging from 12 stone to 25 stone) and four bricks to chock the wheels. That must be the toughest nut I've ever had to crack.

Give me Luxobarge's wheel nut any day :D

You wouldn't ever want to piss off the guy that tightened that up!

That apart... Congratulations on getting the bastard off! happy0034.gif

The driveshaft retaining on my Rover took over 300 ft/lb to get off, there's no way I could have done it myself. Still you got a result!

I much prefer the Triumph, sensible torque & a split pin
