Vehicle Paint Refinishing

I have not resprayed anything for several years and am pretty much at a loss on how to prep a car properly so have booked myself onto a week long course at Leeds College.

They are short of people taking up this particular class and it might not go ahead. Therefore I am giving them a bit of free advertising. It starts on 11 July for 5 days and costs £395. The itinery is:

Day 1 - Prepping surfaces for paint application, using paint removers and abraisives, workshop practice prepare panel for painting.

Day 2 - Types of paint spraying equipment and their uses, types of foundation materiels, metal conditioners, body fillers, etch primers, high build primers. Workshop practice, spray gun techniques, applying fundation coats and guide coats, paint faults and correction.

Day 3 - Types of top coat materials, cellulose, one pack acrylic, two pack materials, water based, solid colours, metallics, pearlescents. Workshop practice, flat foundation coats and apply top coat materials.

Day 4 - Indentification of top coat faults, their causes and methods of rectification. Workshop practice, flat and recoat as required.

Day 5 - Flatting and polishing, using abraisive compounds and liquid paint surface restorers, workshop practice flatting and polishing using machines and manual processes.

I have 3 cars that need paint finishing and figures this is cheaper than paying someone else to do it. Might not be as good a job but will no doubt improve the job I am able to do tenfold. To book yourself on ring 0113 3861950.

Sounds a good idea. My "I shall paint the Mini's bumpers and make them beautiful again" plan is falling apart. I'm making a right mess. Still, paint is better than rust...

I should go on this for a refresher as it's been 20 odd years since I was taught and lots changed since then. I actually went to Leeds college then - driving my HC Viva - oh those were the days. Say hello to Mr Tetley if he's still there..

Good luck with the course though.

Don't suppose you have a link to this? Can't find it on the website...

I'd quite fancy this, if it was just afternoons or evenings I'd be well up for it but a full day thing even if only for a week makes it a bit hard work for me.

I cant find it on the website. If you ring the number they can help, but I have written down the pamphlet I got.

If anyone on here that's further afield needs a place to stay for a few days I can put them up, its only a week no matter how bad you are. Just buy me cider.
