i might be after a gearbox for my 1.8 mk1 mondeo as mine is having trouble pulling away and jumps when it first goes into drive or reverse any help or advice before i spend hugh amounts on another box

Check the fluid levels, flush it, change the filter, lob some new in and see how it goes :)

I imagine an autobox change on a mk1 mondeo is far far more than it's worth, i had an 1800 auto, it was fuggin awful!

Through an MoT without needing lower arms? Bloody hell. Mine had new ones every year.

I seem to remember the gearbox on a Mondeo requires a subframe to be dropped - if you're paying labour, you've got to really love that car. On the other hand, there's billions of them in scrappies so if the fluid change doesn't work (and it often does) you won't be hard pushed to find another - just spend a whole day getting it out!

lol the mrs loves it i dont get to drive it as she says i drive my work van all week so i can have a break from driving

I sold mine for 300 quid to a weasel faced dole scrounger - that was 5 years ago and it's still going strong! It's only redeeming features were the nice velour seats, the heated screen, and the fact i didn't have to walk to work , and made a cd player and 100 quid off it :D

I sold mine for £102 to an eBay breaker after the clutch went. 1997 Verona, looked gorgeous on 17" ST220 wheels, and yeah it was a nice lazy drive.

Sounds very much like the oil's low/degraded enough to deprive the clutch packs of necessary pressure. I'd agree that some lovely new ATF might sort it out.

They're not the worst to change the oil on, a few feet of silicon tube, and a funnel work wonders: getting the 'box out is the devil's work. Not so much from anything other than the subframe's need to be exactly to the millimetre, back where it started.

well after weighing up the pros and cons the mondy has been chopped in for a 406 lx estate on a R plate plenty of service history and being 2.0 goes well so if it lasts as long as the mondy i will be well happy
