new/ 2nd hand alternator

Hi all,

I ran some tests on the 850 yesterday the alternaor is wacking out a colossal 19.8 amps (should be 13-14) and has cooked the battery. I'm taking it out today and will try and dismantle it to test the diodes. This is tricky as the nut holding it together is usually an impact driver job so I might have to replace the unit.

I don't supose anyone has a spare alternator - its the Bosch 100 amp one that you find in 850, V70, S70 up to about 2000 and you also find it in some VAG stuff - Passats etc?

cheers

When you get it off could you stick a photo up, I have a couple of 100A Bosch units but not sure if they would be compatable with your vehicle they both work with self adjusting multi-v serpentine belts.

Don't Bosch alternators have a brush/regulator pack screwed to the back? If it does you don't even have to take it off the car.

You could do this on earlier Bosch units not sure that this is possible on the later ones. Agree its the easy option done a few like that on Merc 307s easier than having the front off/up.

yes it does - unfortunately, due to the location of the alternator - accessing the regulator and replicator cover is impossible unless you were a late 1960's kids story book character with very long arms and given to molesting people under the soubriquet "tickle".

so it's an oot the car job....which I did last night (see other thread on this) -
