Anyone here got a CSE in fitting Pattern Panels?

Has anyone had any success with pattern wings from GSF/ECP? I'm thinking of throwing in the towel and replacing the pair of them. The OSF one is retaining water and it's only a matter of time before it shags out the inner wing.

I've seen the OMG Cockney Wanker on Wheeler Dealers replace a W123 wing but it needed a fair bit of fettling before it would fit right.

Is it possible to spray the wing before fitting so I don't have to mask off the rest of the car?

I wouldn't.

The textbook says that you get it into shape with loads of trial fits, filing bits off here and there and shaping it carefully so when it's fitted the panel is unstressed.

What usually happens is that it's so frustrating you end up welding it on at the door edge but it's so distorted there's a 2 inch gap around the indicator lens so you end up holding it in place with your shoe while welding it. NOT GR8 4 PAINT STAYIN ON

It's normally a case of trail and error, all pattern wings fit differently, some better then others, From memory they are bolt on wings on the Merc so the best way is to strip the old wings off then try fitting the new wings until you can get them to line up nice.

Then take them off, rub the wing down and spray the bonnet shut edge as well as the door shut edge, then bolt the the wing back onto the car before spraying it, you might have to blow into the door depending how fussy you are and the colour match.

Edited due to phone being crap at spelling...
