R5 Monaco

Well, after the arrival of my 5 door R5 Auto the other week - and the threat of a Monaco. . .

it's here :D:D

Thanks to my good Renault-owning mate Chris Lee, this beauty was recovered from Somerset to Sandbach today.

The car is another 1.4 auto version, but in Monaco spec. It rolled over to 43k as we passed Bristol today. Basically, the contact I've had with the owner's son, suggested a dead car due to carb problems. We took a chance on driving down to Chard with a new battery, new plugs etc - plus a replacement Weber 32 DRT just in case. It came back to life after the battery and a rotor arm were sorted.

The car has had one owner from new, a really lovely 83 year-old lady called Sylvia, who cried as we left. It wasn't exactly easy to hear her say that she was about to lose her 22 year old companion  - plus the fact that she's now consigned to an 8 mph mobility scooter. The original handbooks, brochure and pricelist - plus all MOTs and FULL Renault service history up until last December are with the car, as is Sylvia's letter requesting a reg plate with as many '8's in it as possible :? Plus she's also logged EVERY fuel fill - including the amount added and. . . the cost per litre (since 1989 :!::!::!: ) - it's pure nostalgia just reading it!!

Anyway, Stevie Wonder repainted the rear bumper, the paint on the plastic section at the base of the tailgate needs redoing, there's evidence of a poor repair on the left side of the bonnet with a bit of rust and the centre section of exhaust has been there since Feb 2000. Quite frankly, fuck it, I don't care whether I can afford it or how much it costs, I love it and it's going to have whatever it needs.

More pics of the tan leather and garment carrier when it's not dark!

Love the Monacos, looks like you've got a good 'un there. Make sure you look after it otherwise Sylvia will be after you

Nice car, I like the Monacos, never been in one mind but the leather interior does look quite inviting.

Now this is exactly what I like to see. I'm trying to be like that myself (Bar of course logging down how much fuel I'm putting in each time  ) collecting as many original handbooks, brochures, floormats, dealer plates past tax discs etc... as my cars often dont come with these.

That looks really nice. I've always liked the top-spec 5s :)

Lovely. Starting to wish I'd never sold my R21 Monaco, especially as the bloody V5 is still in my name! Anyone seen E355 DPL in the Kent area?

Look forward to seeing more pics of this one.

Well done on that there Richard...Woulnt mind a Monaco myself, but Irish Taxation law would very much prohibit a 1.7 Renault 5!

I drove one of these years ago with the 1.7 engine, it was a nice car, I really like it, It came in for some rust repairs on the sill, I remember the steering wheel the most, Thinking how nice it look with the 4 spokes and leather rim.

IIRC, Most are broze with the cream/beige leather, a few are metalic gunmetal grey with the same cream/beige leather and a very few were metalic gunmetal grey with grey leather.

Manual box motors had the 1.7 engine whilst autos had the 1.4.

I want one of the very rare ones with grey/grey and the 1.7 motor!

Liking that a lot. I really like these, decently quick and good looking.

Great little car! I'd be all over that if spotted in Morrisons car park!

Why would you do that? Its like these people who come into the showroom gathering information for their spreadsheet at home, comparing miles per gallon and running costs between every car in a certain price bracket for when they're looking to change their car......... in twelve months time!

Strewth! Get a life!
