Nissan Primera 2.0SE+ (P11-144) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

As briefly mentioned in another post, our Primera failed its MoT and as we’d just been left a little bit of money we decided to get a newer car rather than sort the not-overly-significant faults. Possibly a bit excessive, and not really the AS way, but this one does duty as our decent family car mainly driven by Mrs SL and that’s the way it worked out. Collecting a rather well-specced Accord 2.3 Type V on Saturday...

Friday 13th accident queue, France by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Did 1800 miles around Germany and France last year.

So, it failed on one tyre, emissions and a CV joint and boot. See, not much? Emissions are believed to be the O2 sensor, it’s with a friendly garage awaiting his diagnostic assessment to work out which one. This should hopefully solve some idling/stalling/engine management light issues we’ve been suffering for the last year or so. Tyre could be solved in the short term by fitting the full-size (steel) spare. The MoT was done through a Nissan main dealer and they quoted us crazy prices, which is why we ended up going for something else, but in reality I reckon the above should be a fairly easy fix. Indeed, if it can be done for under £300 or so we’ll probably get it sorted ourselves then sell it on for £700-800 for a quick sale (they’re on eBay for £900-1400).

There were some advisories – front brake imbalance very close to the limits, corrosion on disc edges, a boot on the other CV and lesser odds and ends.

Otherwise it’s a very well-specced, honest car. Done 110k, we bought it at 92k two years ago for £1550 and it’d had two long-term local owners after the usual Nissan pre-registration thing. MoT expires Feb 25th and tax until end of March. Still got ¾ of a tank of fuel in it! It’s the chain drive SR20DE engine, so a basically robust unit which other than the stalling/idling thing has always run well and started fine through the bad weather before Christmas.

Loads of toys, like heated leather seats, trip computer and climate control. Works very well as an estate. The interior is clean and tidy, bodywork pretty good just the usual minor scuffs and small dinks.

We just want a quick, easy sale rather than yet another project, so anyone interested at £300? Allowing for the fuel and tax that’s little more than scrap value. Car is in South Norfolk, and with the current T&T could be driven away. I can collect from Diss railway station. If you can do the work yourself and buy the bits off eBay I’d have thought there’s a bit of profit in it.

Oh damnit, I really do like this car!

And to think I used to only live 10 miles away from you. Gahhh

p.s. Finally going to see hand specialist tomorrow after that little accident when you were here last July. Utterly bricking it, but not being able to hold a spanner really is something of an inconvenience!

Why, hello! Sorry to hear the hand is still giving you grief.

Torsten’s mate has called, should be ringing about the Primera again tonight but in case anyone else is interested do still please let me know in case that doesn’t work out.

Whenever I have a pang of guilt about carring my family around an a 25yr old shitter with an NCAP rating of 0 I find myself eyeing cars like this up.

I bet the wife feels the same too!

Yes please! Will be an ideal fishing wagon. Can come up at the weekend if Torsten falls throught

PS Anyone want a Saab 9-5 Auto !

I'll put you down as reserve if that's OK then? Looks like Torsten's mate Adrian is coming up for it next Tuesday, so I can let you know then if that's OK?

Posted

Sorry, I sold it locally in the end (also letting down Torsten's mate, unfortunately). Bird in the hand and all that.

It was the MAF sensor that was causing the emissions and general running problems.

Shame I was already to come up last weekend with folding
