warren t claim Posted February 5, 2011 Author Posted February 5, 2011 so what are they exactly ? a Mercedes ? One of these I think.
Mash Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 That really is a cobbled together piece of shit isn't it?! As if they intended the interior to be the authentic grim experience of piloting a 50's looking vehicle. Surprising that they still have vans that old in their fleet though. I saw an R-reg Sprinter the other week and was quite shocked to see it still in service.
Pillock Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 I suspect they're probably franchisees and so use whatever van they like as long as it's appropriately liveried. I'd rather that, than extortionate postage costs to pay for a new van every 6 months.

chaseracer Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 so what are they exactly ? a Mercedes ? One of these I think. Yep. Merc T2.
CIH Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 And they went to all that trouble with custom exterior ?
chaseracer Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 And they went to all that trouble with custom exterior ?UPS seems to have a thing about 'giving free advertising' to other companies, to the extent of rebodying delivery trucks and removing badges, etc. Weird.
Des Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I asked a driver about his van a while ago, he told me he was getting a new one soon, that they are a heap of shit and that UPS don't sell them on, his old one would be broken up for parts to keep others going, maybe they have their own workshops.
Guest Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I think they're based off a Chevrolet Step Van chassis but with custom bodywork, some other US company knocks them out.
cms206 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Aye, Mercedes 811Ds or 814Ds I believe they are; most of the useful bits from the Merc dashboard appear to have been reused. The standard version looks like this... ... although that one's got an air handbrake and a DIY milk bottle top gearknob.
barefoot Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 They have an enormous one piece flip front bonnety thing. They are mind-bogglingly noisy to drive and the vehicles from Nottingham depot and all visiting trucks to EMA are maintained by a company called Transcare http://www.transcare.co.uk/Guess which 2 companies I used to work for?
