Neighbour has one of these fine beasts with possibly the biggest oil leak of EVAR , Used a sump full in 16 miles , Thing is I cant see where its coming out from , I can see it pissing out down the O/S chassis leg and it seems to be coming from under the ECU :? , the power steering reservoir is covered as is the bodywork under said ECU , Any ideas people , im baffled :?

Could be I guess , cant see a cooler anywhere though , why would the top of the O/S inner arch be covered in oil , and i mean covered ,

fill it with cheap oil again, and run it on a ramp so u can look underneath. As said we'l struggle to diagnose over the net

Running down the inside of the timing belt cover and being thrown up by the crank pulley?

Found the leak / torrent . The rad expansion bottle is FULL OF OIL , Just oil , no water whatsoever  , still runs fine which is weird , Off to the scrapyard next week then seeing as its done 240,000 miles and the MOT is due

Yep,sounds very much like the oil cooler (modene) between the filter and block has cracked. There are two water hoses conected to it and the oil is getting in the water system from there.Remove both hoses and join together then run the engine. If you can see oil coming out of the pipes these hoses attach to that's the problem.(1.9 TD anyway)

Cheers for the advice , I thought the MOT was out but its just passed , his brother is a mechanic ( why he asked me and not him is baffling ) and has confirmed that it could well be the cooler so it may yet live on , although flushing the cooling system is going to be fun , may need new hoses and a rad

THANKS AGAIN , YOU ARE FONTS OF ALL KNOWLEDGE :D

DAZ works wonders flushing oil from the water system.Clean out as much as you can then before finally topping up pour a cup full of washing powder in the header-tank and run for a couple of days like that.

Well its not the cooler , new one stuck on today and it still blew 2 litres of oil out the expansion bottle in 30 seconds

Anyone want a 406 estate with 12 months MOT , Two new tyres and a borked engine
