Some of my Dad's old shite..

As my Dad is on the point of giving up driving, I thought I'd share some of the old rammel he's had over the years...

First 'car' he had was one of these... Nobel.

First 'proper' car, A55.

This Victor replaced a 1500 Corsair.

Few years later... this FWD Triumph is the first car I remember.

This delightfully shite 404 7-seater was dragged to our house behind an Austin Gypsy!

This VDP 1300 cost £60 IIRC, and was the subject of a fairly extensive 'renovation'. However, a random cutting out fault (eventialy traced to a dodgy ignition switch) resulted in us going on holiday in a hired Ital instead. The VDP was sold to one of Dad's workmates when the auto box started making ominous noises when the car was loaded with bags of firewood, with a trailer full of wood on the back... It was replaced with a £90 Maxi.

He kept this Granada 2.0L for years. It had new rear arches and a respray while in the bodyshop for accident repairs after someone pulled out in front of him. Engine got tired, so was swapped for a low milage Sierra lump.

This replaced the Granada, Dad never took to it so bought a 'Y' plate 240 Volvo. I ran the skud for a while when an Ital I had died.

This Montego 2.0 Mayfair replaced an Ambassador that lunched a displacer. Pictured in Devon, when I borrowed it to go on holiday as my Pug 504 had 'issues'...

That's all I have photos of at the minute, but others he had at various times include MK3 and 4 Zephyr, MK3 Sceptre, A60 Cambridge, another Maxi, 2 Chrysler Alpines, MK1 Golf, 2 Carltons...

I'm liking that a lot. You forget what a clean and smart looking car the Mark 2 Granada was - even the L trim models look good. Must have been a bit painful with the Pinto though? My Dad had a 2.3L Estate which was smooth and quiet but pretty slow. They had a lovely ride though these things. Big heavy bastards on soft springs and baloon tyres.

GR8!

How old was that 404 at the time of recovery / that pic? I am guessing it would not have been much more than 10 years old.

Can you imagine seeing a 51-reg 307 in that kind of body condition??

Good call on some others too. Fatha_Pog had a Granada like that, 2.3 V6 with a slug-box, and I have always loved those wheels. Has an identical Estelle too that supplanted the FSO Polonez, quite a feat to be even more embarrassing motor transport than an FSO...

Yeah, the 404 would have been around 10 years old I recon...

Chap my dad bought it off (a mate of his) had all manner of tat lying about... as well as the Gypsy he had a Peugeot 504 Ti and a Trojan van and his missus tooled about in an early Hiace van, later replaced by a CF.
