Hi all,

I have a few odds and sods that I could really do with moving on, as I have seven cars on my drive at the moment :(

1) Audi 80TDI. L-reg 118,000 miles, MoT April, Tax November. £500

2) Alfasud 1500 Super. Currently in storage, bodily solid with a few scabs here and there. Needs a coil, clutch slave cylinder and the brakes freeing off. A great project, which currently owes me £500.

More to come, but let's see how these beauties go first :)

Helloes,

Lovely looking Audi there, I've been on the look out for a good one for a while now.

I'm currently running a 205 dizzler which is doing me proud, but I could use something a little more substantial for the motorway miles.

Is the Audi in good order - brakes, turbo, tyres, etc? Where abouts are you based please?

Cheers,

Steve

Audi is based in Northants Mr Dizzler. Can't help with the other queries, but I think it's been used as daily transport.

Does the Audi have a tow bar and how much would it tow (weights)?

Just a thought....

Really good order, it cleans up lovely, and with the SE packs it comes with 4x electric windows and electric sunroof.

Matching tyres, too.

Faults?

Some diff whine, a very slightly worn seat bolster, it needs a wiper relay (they don't park), and erm that's about it. I'm not making a big deal of the diff (it could be a wheel bearing TBH), because my Cav was like that, and it ran for 10K without changing a beep :)

Thanks for the swift reply.

Sounds ideal, but unfortunately you're a bit too far away from me (North Staffs).

Best of luck with the sale. Over to you FatherTed.

Ta,

Sorry, forgot to say, no tow bar.

Towing weight, 1500kg. So not that great :)

That Audi 80 looks fantastic

my wife had one for a while, though not a nice one like that

on hers the central locking motor went, which was also the immobiliser. it sits in the rear wing and it filled up with water....

Also one of the injection leak off pipes perished

this manifested itself as fuel starvation at motorway speeds, but it also killed the needle lift sensor in the injector that has one

they are mega economical for the size of car

galvanized as well

I love the feeling of utter solidity and dependability of the thing. It's only going because I want to daily a Citroen AX GT in its place :)

P.S., Interesting shite P/Xs considered :)

I enjoyed reading about your SD1 adventures, did you manage to get it sorted?

All done, pretty much... the SD1 has a bust exhaust manifold at the moment, otherwise it's peachy :)

Thanks for remembering!

It's being restored at the moment.

Hopefully it will be finished in a couple of months, if it doesn't bankrupt me in the meantime :D

I wouldn't mind having your Ro 80, another on my want list.

What are they like to live with?

I had an ex-Audi press 2005E back in the 1990s. I loved it. Would dearly want another. I've just set a very healthy value for the price guides :)

You're welcome to have a go in the Ro80 in exchange for a go in the 200 once I have it MoT'd...

You're quite welcome to come have a look when its done, it will be staying in Telford for a while until I finish my garage.

I drove an Ro80 for the first time last week, an amazing machine years ahead of its time.

I didn't buy it unfortunately as the bodywork needed a lot of attention.

My NSU needs a tiny bit of body fettling, but should be easily sorted, and good.

They can be rot boxes!

Pictures of the 5T please

I owned 3 in the late 80's early 90's

The first one was green with a broken waste gate that no-one was able to diagnose until it was far too late.

By this time the engine had boosted itself to buggery and the gearbox was starting to disintegrate.

As an indication - this thing went up Sutton Bank in Yorkshire in top gear at about 50mph,

a mk2 Astra GTE (in those days a rapid car) tried to stay with me & failed miserably.

Then I bought a really nice grey one VTV10Y which was immaculate apart from a frayed when open OSR door.

I kept this for about 6 years, the engine/turbo failed and another green one was acquired to use as a donor.

Engine & turbo swapped, green car 2 stripped & sent to a breaker in Nottingham.

Gearbox later started to slip & was re-built.

These were the quickest cars that I have ever owned.

But then '94, it had to go as we bought the 944 that we own to this day.

The grey one remains the only car I have ever regretted selling.

I do like the Audi 80 I had one until late last year when I passed it on to my father, its a 1994 on an L 1.6 SE and is in great condition inside and out also in blue. Its not the most fun car in the world to drive and ive had afew reliability issues with it but I like it all the same. The 80's sometimes rust on the front wings but are generally good for not rusting. Compare an Audi 80 with a VW Golf of the same age and the Golf is likely to be completely rotten.

Here is Spottedlaurel's picture, where I first saw it.

It needs a lot of work but it will be worth it in the end.

I will post more pics when its finished.

Spectacular, has it still got it's cushions?

I'd forgotten about the mock top indicators and the quarter lights.

I drove halfway to Leicester on a cold morning with mine in 2nd one day,

passing Loughborough,

noticed it was revving a bit, but no extra noise...

despite their size, there is no room in the back and they weigh much less than the Porsche I replaced mine with,

which is why it accelerated so phenomenally quicker

Oh, & it would kick down into first at about 55mph

although this would cause it to jump violently to the right

& when it thought that it should do a full throttle up-change a couple of seconds later

it would leap, equally enthusiastically to the left, just as you were attempting to correct the previous deviation.

Mine had a/c & the worlds crudest cruise control...

there was a steepish hill locally in a 30 zone that you'd be well advised to approach in 3rd gear in a manual...

Bung the 200 at it, 30 mph, top/3rd gear no revs

it would dribble up the hill, the torque converter doing its slippery best until at about 23mph

it finally decided that it ought to drop a gear,

by the time it was in second

we'd be doing under 20mph

when it would hit 1st in a frenzy,

open the throttle & scream up the hill & fling all occupants backwards with much severity.

& full throttle uphill starts in the wet...

...nothing happens, everything used to wind itself gently up,

revs, torque converter, turbo...

and then at about 30mph it all used to come together,

the wheels would spin, it would fly violently to the right,

decide that enough was enough, up a cog

equally viciously back to the left & then behave like a real car again for a bit

Never really managed many miles to the gallon for a 2.2 though

I still wish that I'd not sold it

& I particularly wish that I'd kept the cushions when it finally went.

No cushions unfortunately, I was going to ask if you still had yours!
