Somebody mention Fiat 131?

Supermirafiori-vi.jpg

8 years old, 1600 twink, 5 speed box, been used by the travellers as a dog kennel. When I found it, there were no wheels... Oh boy it was fast! Died about 1988, as in those days I was slow to scrap stuff.

Previously I'd had an early-type 1.3, a yellow 2 dr, as a rental. South Wales and back, it was quite good enough, which amazed me. I was still young and only seducable by top-option motors, like certain long-gone posters of this parish!

Alright gang,

over on R-R theres some lad going on about how many old snotters there are in Spain. he chucked up a link to a Spanish classified ad site, so of course I performed a shite interrogation of said site. Here is what i found:

SEAT 132 MERCEDES

12494938_1.jpg

http://www.milanuncios.com/seat-de-segunda-mano/seat-132-12494938.htm

A What? This is a Spanish-built Fiat 132 with a surprise under the bonnet. It comes from the factory with a 2.0 mercedes diesel engine!!! Non-turbo of course.

12494938_5.jpg

What a weapon thats gotta be!!! A great combination of 1970's Fiat 'losing their way' styling, and a hideously low-powered taxi engine. I WANT!!!! Tihs one is only 800€ and is supposedly in great nick.

SEAT 131 DIESEL

Now then, according to Wiki these things left the factory with a PERKINS 4108 (!!!!!) or a SOFIM 2.5 diesel like you get in a Talbot Express i believe. This one in the ad seems to have neither, i'm not sure what engine it is though. Its 999€ but there are a few others:

This ones got the 2.5, its 1000€ but looks a decent bet.

Look at this tricky little blighter!!! €1600 like but looks a minter, 1430 petrol.

I WOULD LOVE either a 132 Mercedes or a Perkins-powered 131, fookin ell when the weather brightens up a bit I might look into one of these a bit more seriously.

youve educated me this evening

for that i thank you

my train of thought now echoes your last sentence.............

I've seen that Glasgow registered example on the left in the flesh. It was lovely. It was/is owned by a bloke from North London called Theo, who also has/had a very nice Gamma Coupe 8)

thats right, this was pictured years ago when it was still up here.

Yup, I know Theo. After he bought my old Trevi, we went out for a burn in it.

It's got a dry-sump Guy Croft in it. The seats are lush too

It would appear the Sofim engine also made it into .....the Renault Safrane.... kinell...

Yep. My 2.5dt uses one with a turbo on it. Sound very 'old school' diesel with the window open but quite quiet on the move.

Oh Goody a proper 131/132 thread! 8)

My first car was a two-door 131 Mirafiori 1.3 OHV. Went like stink with the short gearing. Local Escort 1600 Sport guys hated me. I loved that car.

Standard bumpers on that browny. Remember this car was new for 1974. Mine was just like that browny, square lights, same chrome wheel trims, but in blue. RBM 268R.

The big bonnet bump on the red one is the obvious way to tell an oil burner. Thought they were only ever VM units - so news there on Perkins :?

Found a pic of my old Mirafiori, as bought, complete with snow cap on roof falling off just like the trim did. Shame I smashed it up a year later, as that two-door shell is worth a good few Euros today

Ditto. I had a 1.6 Auto Mirafiori in yellow as my first car :D Round lights. Will have to find a picture or two of it.

Great

I quite like the idea of a 2000 Panorama with the autobox. Shytermirafiori.
