Love the Reiver :)

That one would have been built in Scotstoun at the Albion Factory, hence its name. The Bathgate-built equivalent was the Mastiff. Subtle badge engineering??

It's baffling how they had two factories, not far from each other producing the same lorry. Were they aimed at different markets?

I think it was because the factories were tken over by Leyland from what the originally were.

As an aside, my uncle served his time at Albion in Scotstoun, before it was taken over by Leyland.

I read somewhere that one reason was that the management were scared of causing unrest - the trucks division traditionally looked in disgust at the volume cars factories and their militant workforce and I think BL wanted to keep it that way and so kept the Albion works and workforce on. They were a big player in those days so i imagine extra capacity was welcomed anyway. All went tits in the end of course

Hey, quality spots here! Funnily enough, the Suzuki LJ must be one of those cars I have simply never seen. Impressive amount of abandoned old tat you found as well, any stuff abandoned up there seems to stick around for quite a while (maybe not in one piece).

Someone mentioned how ugly something was and compared it to the current 5 and said it'd piss me off, but I actually agreed with them...

And now that someone is going to be in real pain, because I seem to owe you a slight* apology, Eccentric! I didn't notice that the 5-series had been restyled, it was the 04-ish model I was referring to. Mind, since I hadn't actually noticed the restyle, that must mean it's precisely as ugly as the one I meant. It doesn't matter, neither will never be "shite" as we like it, because they are just, well, shite. Overpriced**, butt-ugly**, filled with heart-stoppingly-expensive electronics... it'll only take a small plastic box to render one scrap in a decade or so because it'll still cost more to replace than four whole cars.

*So slight you will barely be able to detect it, even with Spock working the scanners!

**And always will be, even when valued lower than used Frosties boxes and restyled on Chop Shop.

Anyway, let's talk about real cars, my 1972 Granada is nearly ready for MoT, then I can get it registered as Classic and start using it! Woo-hoo!
