Almost every old Ford thread descends into a Ford nerd convention, the willy-waving nerds brandishing their most accurate trim level and model year facts.

and yet your avatar shows a man who knows his onions

how queer

have you seen my washboard?

I usually like car nerdiness, maybe it's just because every cunt is a Ford nerd.

Sierra rust depends on where it was made. Dagenham built cars were rubbish, but the Kraut ones (look for Ford Werke Actiengesellschaft on the VIN plate) were pretty good. All Cosseh Staffires were built there and they're pretty rust resistant. Not immune, but the front wings, sills and rear arches won't be falling off if it's a genuine straight example.

I've got a thing for the original Jellymoulds, a beige '83 1.6L with the flying saucer wheeltrims - niiiiice.

And I've driven clean ones into the scrapyard and claimed my £50. Oh well.

I'd agree with that. Somebody at work got an early 3 door Sierra in about 2000 and there wasn't a spot of rust on it. Unfortunately it went the same way as every other car he had- written off in a low-speed dope-fuelled accident.

same principle seems to apply to Cortinas too

I wonder how many were made at Dagenham - my dad had three low-spec Mk1s from new (2 1.6Ls and a 1.8GL) and they were all made in Genk in Belgium. The Ghias seem to have lasted best out of the boggo stuff - made in Germany, perhaps?

Nice looking Saff, anyway - my dad ran a hatch in that colour/trim level back in the mid-90s with the carb'd twincam. Not a bad old bus.

Proud.

I had a Sierra 2.9i Ghia 4x4 Estate, twin turbocharged by Turbo Technics when new, and with factory A/C. One hell of a car that, G666PFJ.
